Every 62 minutes someone dies from an eating disorder. It’s a psychological condition that affects more than 30 million Americans across every age, gender and socioeconomic group. Eating disorders have a higher mortality rate than any other mental illness, making them a life-threatening epidemic. The most prominent eating disorders are Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Binge-Eating Disorder. Anorexia is characterized by food deprivation, over-exercising and/or relying on laxatives/supplements to achieve weight loss. Bulimia involves compulsive overeating followed by purging or over-exercising. Binge-Eating Disorder is when one frequently consumes large quantities of food in a short period of time.

I had to get a feeding tube and be in the hospital for over 3 weeks. Lost 58lbs since beginning of the year. In the hospital stay alone I lost 9 pounds. Gained 2 pounds at the end of the stay. And now that I'm home I lost even more weight.

I …. I just did a Google search on why I can’t force myself to eat even tho I am not concerned with weight loss and this came up. And it’s all accurate to me 😭 I could cry rn. I t dry so hard to and when I take that first bite my stomach churns and it seems somehow off and I can’t get more then two bites. My body is crashing so hard on me.

Does this exist in countries where they do not have food abundance? Or is this a first world mental health issue that only exists because we have the choice to not like certain foods? Is this something that developed in children and can be avoided by actual parenting?
