The Transfagarascher elevated road begins in the town of Căpățânenii Ungureni - part of the municipality of Arefu - after which it reaches the hydroelectric power station of the Vidraru dam after about two kilometers. From here the road begins to rise steeply and winding in the valley of the Valea lui Stan stream, partly over viaducts and through four tunnels. Two of the tunnels are around 100 meters long and are located just before the dam wall of the Vidraru Dam. Here the Transfagarascher Hochstraße continues on the six meter wide and 307 meter long dam.
