I've never really been a big Beck fan, perhaps the odd song here or there over the years - non of which have stood the test of time for me; but this album in its entirety hit the spot at exactly the right (troubled) moment in my life. You just start it playing and immediately fall in and drift. Many of the songs are lyrically open to interpretation and so they can mean anything to anyone. For me, because of the position I was in when I discovered the album and the resulting meanings and feelings I took from the songs at that time it is the album I always turn to when I'm getting a little down. It is an album of astonishing aural beauty, for me easily the best thing he has released and it is still my favourite album of the last 15 years, perhaps longer.

1K! Congratulations !
I missed this one(probably burnt out on Beck during my retail years) but it sounds like I’d like this more than the Zapp &Roger esque funky records.
Was this made around the time he was involved with that Laurel Canyon documentary?
Keep these brief discussions coming😂

I am definitely an Mellow Gold/Odelay/The Information/Guero Beck fan. I tried when Mutations came out. But if I want miserable melancholy, Beck ain’t the guy for me. Personal taste of course!

Dunno. For me, Beck and Wilco both followed the same trajectories. Rough evolved to compelling followed by pleasant enough pablum. This was where that last phase started for Beck. And like Wilco I hope for the end to the sleepwalking from each release. Has yet to happen.
1K!!! 1K!!! 1K!!!
