I have just come from the movies and I saw "Gods of Egypt". I liked the film very much. I have one criticism: They spent a lot of money on art, the hieroglyphics, buildings, and sculpture; however, the camera panned over most of these items so quickly, it was impossible to appreciate the work.
The film moved right along and had many levels of story lines.
Enjoyed it.

This looks like the Gods of Rome instead of Egypt. Someone ought to have studied more before making this film

Did we really need a Silverhawks movie set in ancient Egypt? Fuck yeah we did!

You know, Egyptians were not black at all. Nubians were who overthrew the last native Egyptian rulers, but that was at the end of Egypt. Most paintings and sculptures show Egyptians with *red* skin, not brown. And this was originally a gender indicator because women were shown white or yellowish, while men were red. Eventually the colors bleed over the genders to show who's more masculine or more feminine or who worked outside more (and got tan/red). The Minoans did this the most prominently but Greeks and Romans did the same in their But as for the Egyptians, they still obviously showed the basic Caucasoid facial skull features (long thin nose, eye shape, longer face in general). Also, most of the nobles were shown with blue eyes, red skin, and a basic white shaped face, these are the scribes, but there was Ka'aper, Neferiti, Rahotep, and Nofret that I can name off the top of my head. And as far as the hair went, we all (should) know that they wore wigs, and if you look at the wigs, they are like a dark brown or red color anyway. Most Greeks and Romans had curly dark brown or red hair as well. .... So all this whining is really just the product of white hating, and self hate by whites. There's really not much wrong with this movie in regards to race, (not in consideration of the Thoth actor) if you would just look for info in non afrocentrist places. Look up "Tan men/pale women: Color and gender in archaic Greece and Egypt" if you want real scholarly articles on this subject.

Oh man I would just love for this to be amazing. Even just some entertaining pulpy fantasy stuff. There's enough negativity already that won't add the logical follow up to
that statement but... fingers crossed?

Egyptian God themed fantasy is a cool and woefully unplumbed concept after all.

It's not impossible that this movie got made because a talented director had a worthwhile artistic vision and story to tell is it? :p

Oh, here we go:

(the description) The PEACEFUL and prosperous empire of Egypt? Are you out of your minds? It's was called an empire because the city states were built on the backs of dead soldiers who disagreed with their sudden and involuntary baptism into statehood.
(IMDB) The time frame of this movie is all over the place, but that's beyond the scope of this trailer.
(0:04) Why are there pyramids EVERYWHERE?
(0:10) Hieroglyphic growing out of the guy's head.
(0:11) Those are not falcon wings; those are gull wings.
(0:16) Who's this guy and why is he sitting on Liberace's couch? Amun-Ra god of the noon sun, you say? He does seem bright and vibrant like someone in charge of a giant ball of fire.
(0:21) The laws of physics preclude a man standing at the base of those curtains from opening them so easily in that way, but we've gotta get our big reveal in, so...
(0:23) An obelisk growing out of the guy's head.
(0:27) Gods look like people because actors want their faces shown. Literally, there's a statue behind Gerard that shows what he's supposed to look like (sort of). Also, what's with the armadillo pauldron?
(0:29) Red clothed soldiers standing in front of a golden head to look like a tongue.
(0:31) Catapult destroys building with one shot.
(0:39) That floor is laughable. Among other things, it contains a cartouche -- the name of the pharaoh. No pharaoh would have allowed their name to be stepped on.
(0:47) Of course she's not wearing any real clothing or armor. Any battle can be won in a golden swimsuit.
(0:51) It's daytime, yet the light is blinding.
(1:08) Set calls forth a demon that he controls, yet the snake still needs a rider to keep it in line.
(1:13) Rider on the snake is definitely dead on this impact. Except, of course, he's not.
(1:14) "Spitting" cobras spray from their fangs using muscle contractions, not the backs of their heads or necks. Also, as head moves down, fire spray continues unchanged.

Nothing about this movie is Egypt, looks more like a Roman or Greek movie i.e the Titans... Great effects, though!!!

They were showing this at work in the break room yesterday while I was on my lunch break (March 25, 2022). I guessed Leonidas when I saw Butler on the screen.

Mediocre gods of too much CGI. A more fitting title.
