We lost the most beautiful nine-year-old girl in our family. She was truly an extraordinary human being...the light of the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known her. The holes in our hearts are immense and everlasting. But this song, which I've known since I was a teenager but somehow hadn't listened to for at least twenty years, is the single most perfect anthem Mackenzie's beautiful mother could sing to her every day and night. Tears rolling as I think of it. The immense joy and beauty, along with the deep, deep pain of life, are both inevitable. Like so many, Kenzie brought us both -- joy and laughter in life, and unspeakable pain upon her leaving. Any heart or valentine symbol we see is Mackenzie reminding us that she will never leave us. To all who listen to this gorgeous song, blessings and joy to you and all those you love. Don't forget to thank them today. Tomorrow may be too late. Peace.

Hands down this is the greatest song by the Kinks. The melody tears into your heart and the lyrics brings me to tears as I remember all of the people I've loved and lost.

RIP Jay. This is for you. Gone too soon. What a guy. A mate like no other, gone too soon. Bless you mate, you shone a light on my life when I needed it most, and we had good times. Say goodbye to a brother from another mother and thinking of you.

I asked for this song to be played at my Father's funeral 5yrs ago. A couple of people said I should have asked for a favourite song of my Dad's, but I felt that this beautiful song said everything that I wanted to say to him. Now this morning I have read an article in which Ray Davis says he wants it played at his own funeral, and I feel totally vindicated.

When I first heard this, I thought it was a little pop song. Now I know it is pure genius. Thanks Ray for giving us this little gem.

Two months ago you left me, we had such a little time together, but they were wonderful days, I will carry you in my heart forever...it took most of my life to find you, we had other lives, but this was our heaven, Angels guard thee my darling,

This song is achingly beautiful.
As soon as it starts, the little taps inside my eyes open up and I cry a river.

When I hear this song I think of a dog I had back in the late eighties to 1999. I know I'm biased but he was just the best dog I've ever known, he and I were a perfect match, and that period of my life I was at my happiest, which had much to do with him. Thank you for the days, old friend.

The greatest taonga we have in life is not time, but the people we treasure.
Let us find the way to make the moments we have with those people joyful and memorable.

After hubby passed, I had the task of closing up his garden where I sang and remembered every word of this song. And again at his memorial, on board the schooner he watched being built in Essex, MA by Harold Burnham. Added a bagpiper and the wonderful man who had married us, many years previous. Flowers on the water made a celebration of his life complete. Not a dry eye when Danny Boy was piped for our enjoyment.
