Are the barrels charred again after the Sherry or Bourbon have been aged in the barrels? Or are you referring to the charting or toasting that occurs before the Sherry or Bourbon is being placed into the barrel for aging?

Due to the molecular structure of carbon and ionic attraction sulfate molecules fill the pores of the carbon and are trapped. They cannot be released from the carbon back in to new whisky added to a cask. :-)

Am I wrong or maybe mistaken but I thought that alcoholic strength can move either direction depending on the climate in the warehouse eg Kentucky =very hot & very cold which means more water loss (gaining strength) and Scotland which has less extreme weather contributing to more alcohol loss?

Amazing video, but I would like for Charlie to clarify the difference for sherry oak and fine oak. For example Macallan has 2 different series of single malt whiskys...and I can tell the difference in color in them and taste as well. Im guessing the fine oak is made on ex-bourbon american oak ??

Wonder if make your own whisky kits could be a thing. A bottle of vodka, and a little barrel, smaller barrels call for shorter aging, maybe just a year, might make a good wedding present.

How would a whiskey taste if it was in a casket made of plastic for instance, where there is no interaction at all?
