Night Harvester is only better in ARAM where your mana matters less because as AP Malphite your R is a one way ticket to hell for your opponents AND for yourself. A little bit of added tankiness (HP) helps a lot there and you will die constantly anyway so you'll basically always be full mana after reset.

I play AP malph jg and support often and it does the same thing... pick a squishy and one shot them every time r is off cd. I go night harvester instead of ludens though.
