For anyone working with orchestral vsts. In addition to the volume fading trick he's doing, make sure you adjust the modulation. Most orchestral samples are recorded at different dynamic levels and then you can crossfade between them using the modulation wheel. Want something that sounds like it's rising, not only just in volume, but the in the aggression required to get the instrument that loud? That's what the modulation wheel gives you on most orchestral samples. An instrument played softly that has been increased in volume won't sound the same as an instrument that's just played harder (and inherently louder) to get to that same level of loudness.
