Anytime I think where I live sucks I just watch any news out of California and I feel so much better.

San Clemente had house slides back in the early 90’s. I’m not surprised it’s still happening, though I’m sorry for the loss the owners will have

With all the building codes still never understood why builders where allowed to build a structure right on the edge of a cliff, a cliff made of dirt, clay, rocks. I understand when the build on edge of cliffs of stone, granite other very hard materials. And these slides have been going on in California for decades & still they build homes right on edge of cliffs.

Water and fire has no friends Building homes without proper foundation will soon drift away.

Only a fool would build things in places not meant for buildings, like on the edge of a cliff, or right next to the shore.

Wow. What a concept. Build on unstable coastal cliffs...and expect nothing to happen. Guess what, those cliffs are not permanent structures. and the homeowners are doofuses.

if more trees were planted on the hill and took root i feel this wouldnt have happened. Prolly cleared the tree's out and mother nature ran its course

Chip.. the own of the property in San Clemente had said he lost it all and even the fire department said it was most likely that property would even be used again because of the way the ground is too unstable. All of you reporters get the information wrong because you don't look up what was reported before.

I bet nobody ever wondered why California is the only state in the union trying to pay reparations.. if they don't there won't be a California left😅

There's no doubt these views are priceless, and only millionaires can afford, but driving by is fantastic!

Some people build houses in some really dangerous places, all they see is the view and not the future danger

The whole state needs to slough off into the ocean.

A problem with drought caused by climate change/global warming is that it leads to flooding because the ground is so dry that it can't absorb water, and instead water just runs off it. Also, flooding doesn't really irrigate crops, and it doesn't tend to help the water shortage problem either because most of the water just ends up running into the ocean and not into lakes or reservoirs. This kind of worsening problem is also a foreshadowing of things to come. California and the US need to pay attention to the climate scientists. Pretending that this kind of thing is more or less normal is NOT the way to mitigate it.
