August 10, 1968 at 10am LA Airways 417 flew at 1, 200ft over my house in Compton.
I was 6yrs old. I wished that someday I'd be on that helicopter going to Disneyland.
It flew over everyday. 55yrs later I still see and hear flight 417 falling apart, over our house, the loud bang the rotor blade made when it struck the tail in flight, fuselage  tumbling, the crash and smoke over&over in my dreams. My dad and I got there in minutes. 22 dead. Never forget the smell. 30yrs later, I found out thru the internet that a mechaninic blew off a scheduled (shot peening of the rotor blades) for that helicopter. That experience forced me to take my time and make sure I correctly repaired aircraft.

I was a witness I was coming out of school and I see a helicopter falling from the sky I sent the video that my friend and I captured to the news. It was terrifying the poor kids were under 10. Being a child myself. I am so sorry to those who were lost.

First geese, then a fuel shortage. Before takeoff? No helicopter crashes in free fall due to a fuel shortage, breaks apart, and the rotor blades fall off.Exactly, that's what happens when the clevis is broken or the rotor rod is defective!
