Party Autonomy is one of the cornerstones of arbitration, and the right of parties to select their party-nominated arbitrators is viewed as sacrosanct. At the same time, this right of parties is not unfettered, and is circumscribed by rules requiring the arbitrators to be independent and impartial.

The panellists in this webinar will discuss the concept of party autonomy vis-à-vis the appointment of arbitrators, circumstances which give rise to justifiable doubts ‘as to the independence or impartiality’ of an arbitrator, developments in the law with regard to the grounds for arbitrator challenges, and the role of appointing authorities.
