Tony Hutson: I've Had Nine Church Splits in 33 Years

In the sermon What Job Didn't Have, preached at Hopewell Independent Baptist Church during their 2022 Winter Revival, Tony Hutson states that he has had 9 church splits in 33 years and that he is in the middle of one right now. If I do my math right, that means a church split every 3.3 years. (Had 9 and in one right now = 10). I don't think I've ever been at a church that had a church split in my entire life.

A church split is not something I would think the average church-goer would want to go through. They are difficult to say the least, and many times they are downright nasty. Many pastors have had to endure them, especially if a pastor comes in and is trying to take a church in a different direction.

According to the webpage, Tony Hutson has been at Middle Tennessee Baptist Church since 1990. That means, during his time at one church, he has had 9 to 10 church splits. I'm not one to judge, but after a while, you have to ask yourself, "What the King James Bible is going on there that they have had that many splits?"

I've never been at a church that had a church split, and I don't want to have to go through that. But can you imagine going through 9 church splits in 33 years, and going through another one? That's 10 since he's been at Middle Tennessee Baptist Church! After a while you have to ask what is the common denominator.

'What's going on? What's going on? What's going on?!"

What's going on is you're about 2 double cheeseburgers away from type 2 diabetes.

I have no doubt that preachers like consider those who leave their church to be tares. Such preachers never consider, or at least never admit, that they themselves and their loyal followers may be the party that's wrong.

I was part of a church split because our pastor was a liar, manipulator and was disqualified for ministry for other things. Most of those who left began another church and that church is healthy and thriving today. I can't imagine that taking place in the same church over 9 times! Obviously the pastor is doing something to cause the dissention. If it's one group, then everything should be fine when they leave. 9 times a different group was in the wrong? Sounds like the fruit of Tony Hutson's ministry is rotten. Maybe it wouldn't happen so much if he would preach the Bible and quit asking if everybody is ok every 30 seconds.

10 church splits should be worth another doctorate at least.

I have have experienced several church splits, pastor removals in my life and I find every one of them to not be the problem of the pastor directly or not at all, but other maybe jealous leaders in the church. two of these outburst happened on a Sunday morning. In hind site they might have also had their salvation teaching wrong, but back then I was not as aware of that false teaching, but yes now they are wrong. However the outburst on a Sunday morning was just so wrong, and including lies or here say. In both cases I left the church no very long after the outburst.
