"Time is a web silly goat, and Warmbo is the spider" is the most eldritch horror line ever written. HP lovecraft couldn't even describe this horror

People have been pretending for years that water isn't an issue...but as a Californian who drives past lush green golf courses across the freeway from dry, withered natural land...it's pretty horrific. The lakes are drying up. A creek I used to be able to swim in as a little girl in the 90s is now so shallow that when a friend visited 2 years ago, she said it was only ankle-deep. I want you all to know the Golden State is dry and some of it is dying.

Edited: thank you all for all the likes! Please learn about water management in your area, and how it affects people and the flora and fauna who live there. If you can, look up old pics of what your area used to look like 10, 20, and 100 years ago. Depending on where you are, you might be horrified.
Protest and/or vote to fix what you can. Please don't end up in a tract home in a desert, pretending Everything is Fine like most of us.

Hey Cody, Flint resident here with a few corrections on your Flint section.
1. It's pronounce Jen-uh-see county. Genesee.
2. The river water didn't have lead in it. Aging infrastructure that was old enough to have lead pipe fittings leached into the system due to river water being more corrosive and harder to treat and the water we are getting from Detroit comes pretreated and we don't have the infrastructure to treat the water. So when things started going to shit, they pumped the water full of tthms, which sped up the process and leached lead, bacteria, copper, and other things you don't want in the water.
3. They did tell us to boil water, BUT boiling water doesn't remove metals from it. Just bacteria. The only way to remove that was to filter it. And they gave us filters... Which were cheap and not qualified to remove lead.
4. They've declared our water safe multiple times and none of us believe them. They're still replacing the last bit of pipes, slowed down by covid, but the state and city need to replace internal home pipes for older homes with lead fittings or we wind up with more localized version of the problem.
5. Those indictments were repealed by our attorney General to restart the investigation, which has been fruitful in uncovering just how fucked everything was, including the company (private of course) that monitored our water at the time found lying to the city for 8 months knowing lead was in there and reporting to the city that the discoloration was safe.
6. The emergency financial management law could almost have it's own video... It failed in referendum, but was shoved through anyway by snyder through legislature and allowed him to take over any city deemed in financial ruin... But Flint was actually on an upswing. It would be years before we saw the fruits of the investment and the city plan we had, first in 20 years, but it was moving forward and the water crisis put a stop to a lot of our progress. In other words, it's kinda worse than people realize. They absolutely fucked us.

Anyway, love the show and I'm sure a lot was left out for brevity because this isn't about us. It's about the whole world. Keep up the good work!

"When a person sells a thing, they are implicitly saying they are OK with not everyone being able to buy it" - Big Joel on a video about the Lorax movie

So obv we decided it was acceptable to sell things like water, food, and shelter, as well as medicine, because the people in charge have apparently decided people dying from preventable causes is totally cool and OK

I am also so sick of individual people being told they need to conserve energy when corporations are doing the most damage and not held accountable at all.

Hi, Water Resource Engineer here. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO. My self and many others in my field have been SCREAMING about this issue for DECADES, but it tends to fall on deaf ears more often than not.

Comparing water to foodstuff makes you realize that food should also DEFINITELY be a public right

Thank you for bringing attention to Nestle's theft of water from the Arrowhead community. It feels like even people who live there are largely unaware of it, while over the years lakes drain and forests die off.

"As a human being you should have the right to water, but that is an extreme solution" now there's a quote, yikes

We in the USA, and subsequently the world, have collectively decided that money, a thing we made up, is more valuable then any thing else. Including clean water a thing we need to survive.

FYI: as someone who lives in Cape Town, fortunately our most dire water crisis has passed for now. It's actually a feel-good story in terms of how the citizens actively banded together despite overwhelming government incompetence and helped us avoid a "Dry Day Zero"! Our dams are currently sitting at 65%, and we are only starting to head into our rainiest season.

(not to say we as a planet don't have a dire water situation, but Cape Town has some good local news at least!)

Now I just think of that Spongebob scene where he goes *WATER* for a while... I'll think of that to keep from crying at least.

The fact that Arizona has any golf courses, let alone some of the most per capita in the country, is asinine beyond reason.

What's most important is trees that are native and biodiverse, because it can have the opposite effect if the same trees are planted.

Golf courses, hopefully.

As someone who lives near Lake Shasta I can tell you the change is noticeable, we have new Islands in the lake because the water level has dropped so dramatically in the past several years.

Had a geologist roommate a decade ago who swore to me that in the 2030s we'd end up having water wars kick off. All of this just seems to be confirming that claim.
