ML wanted to give a good practice match to FZD. FZD too played without any pressure. Ofcourse ML is experimenting new things for the future. Did not seem too interested in outcome of this match

Fan controlled the match well. After the first game or so, Ma had little chance to step around to use his forehand, his big weapon. Fan's short game also gave Ma little chance to attack hard. And in backhand to backhand rallies, Fan has the advantage as he can press harder. Fan hopefully wins his first worlds soon. He has been waiting a long time for this.

Ma Long, implementing the Reverse Pendulum Serve in his game against the RPS master is fascinating to see. I can watch FZD serve for an hour straight and never get bored.

After the first rallies, I expected Ma Long to win. But Fan Zhendong changed his placement and started to attack first. So, many of ML's shots weren't clean anymore, I guess FZD studied him very well and had the advantage that he was more in shape than the goat

I have always felt that FZD is more of a machine whereas ML is like the man who programs these machines..

ML usually beats FZD (though not always). This is the only time I've ever seen a 4-0 loss to FZD! I've been waiting for FZD to take over the mantle of Chinese TT leadership for some time now but he still seems to lose to ML in critical matches. And then XX sometimes surprises us with fantastic play! There's a whole new generation of close-to-the-table lightning fast Chinese players (LGY, LJK, WCQ - but they still usually lose to ML and FZD.

Ma long is not going to WTTC. It does not make sense for Ma Long to win against FZD, as it only brings down the morale of the WTTC team.

IMHO. Ma play around 70% - 80% of his effort, almost no forehand, no various service&game plan, just play backhand drive all day long. We all know that Fan have a plan to switch from Ma’s backhand to forehand swiftly (like Harimoto’s plan) but Ma seems to have no interest to catch the ball with his forehand at all.

If you see it on paper its an effortless win for Fan Zhendong but if u see every set itself it was sooo close

You can see Fan change his playstyle a lot in this match, which make Ma Long look very awkward.
However, this match means nothing since it's a warm-up tournament. Fan need to pull this off in a critical match like WTTC, world tour finals or the olympics.

This is more of practice game. Both of them played without any pressure. I heard (not 100% sure) ML is not going to play World Finals which will be held In Houston next week.

Para mi ML se sobreconfio al principio, luego se dejó estar. Es aspecto psicológico siempre es más importante.
También puede ser un desgaste. ML tiene su ciclo en esto.

Фу, позорище! И так на протяжении последних 3х лет. Очевидно, что у Ма Лонга комплексы: проигрывает почти все равные счета и даже когда advantage, когда проигрывает - не навязывает борьбу и далеко отпускает. Фан ДзенДонг наголову его сильнее - без вариантов. Тут суровый вид спорта: или ты выбираешь только его, или типа разрываешься между теннисом и семьей. Теннис в итоге всегда проиграет
