I used to think that adults were literal gods that knew everything

i never thought being an adult was going to be fun. i never even got that illusion planted in my head. i only ever saw people complaining about adulthood and i was TERRIFIED to grow up because of it. everyone always says to "enjoy your childhood while it lasts because being an adult sucks" but i didnt enjoy my childhood because i was too busy having meltdowns because i was absolutely petrified to grow up

You wouldn’t believe how many times my four year old has told me what she’s gonna do as an adult and I can tell you almost every one of those things would land her in jail in real life 😂😂😂Luckily she’s only four so she doesn’t have much choice right now to do those things 😂 which ironically mostly includes driving the car super fast

I would be laughing if it wasn’t so hurtful 😂😂😭😭

Even worse is when you get in trouble for "Backtalk" when you just want to know why. Especially if it's something that was promised and is not being fulfilled

"Because I said so!"
I swear our parents need to give us actual excuses

Edit:this comment is for people like me who had issues with their parents. Stop responding if you're not one of those people.

Y'all must've forgotten how much being a kid sucked, its not just not getting to do certain things. It's being overlooked, invisible to most people, no ability to make your own choices

"Whatever I want" is sadly qualified by financial means, which reduces it to "laying on my back like a star fish" on most days

As a teenager, you don't have to tell me. I'm already crying every night knowing I'm gonna be screwed in two years 🙃

As an abused kid, for me becoming an adult and being able to do "whatever I wanted" was legit. I'm still in shock as to how great and full of freedom my life has become simply because I hit the 18 checkmark. I finally have rights. I don't belong to someone, I'm not in constant fear of being degraded or hurt. People *respect* adults.

As barely an adult who is 21: It really depends honestly. Life sucked for me as a teenager because of bullying and extremely strict and conservative parents, but got a lot better as an adult because now I can make my own choices, find my own family and friends and make my own money to get by.
I wouldn't say it's more difficult, it's just that the problems and benefits you get change.

Nah I was constantly crying, being ignored, having panic attacks, and having mental breakdowns before I had legal control over my life and could legitimately threaten to both leave and bash my parents to everyone they cared about for the way they were parenting me.

Now I get the anxieties of an adult, but I can actually do something about it instead of being immediately punished and berated for being upset. Also I can eat what doesn’t make me want to puke, make food that actually tastes good, and do what I want with my free time instead of being trapped by my parents‘ decisions on what to do with theirs.

People are already treating me like an adult, yet also treating me like a little kid. ✨ *infantilization of autism* ✨

I'm not even a adult and this is sadly relatable

People tend to forget that being a kid can suck too. I am much happier as an adult than I was as a kid.

The things you're gonna want and the energy you have for it is going to change drastically. That's what they don't tell you

I work with kids and the ones who don't nap...they'll one day understand how precious a nap is 😅
