The late Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng has been brought back to life as an interactive character you can talk to in a video call. Twenty-seven years after her death, digital production and visual effects company Digital Domain has made use of some of the latest technology to create a virtual reality (VR) version of the famous singer. Digital Domain Chief Executive Daniel Seah spoke with the SCMP’s Holly Chik about what he sees as future applications for virtual humans like the ones his company has created.

Not sure if I am a proponent to this new technology, while it may givie us a sense of sentimental emotion and to relive seeing these deceased icons "alive" and having a conversation with us...Some new technologies tend to cross boundaries or may be viewed at the least borderline unethical. I can't say "the jury is out" on this creation yet.

Those people who did this literally worked with her family and got their permission.
They also worked out terms with the family so that the family would be more comfortable.
Anyone else that has issues really doesn't have a right to, because the family has weighed in, and the team has accommodated so that even the family is ok with it.

The expression Virtual Human is in itself a deadend. one cannot virtualise humanity. existence has to be lived and people have to learn to live with mistakes regrets and loss. There is no way a virtual human can relate to a human. its only a mimic. emotions can be turned into algorithms but there is no way they can make a machine into a human.
