About the Oregon Coast:

Much of the town is above the highest possible tsunami zone. Any location is near enough to high ground to walk to safety. The limited number of vacation rental rooms in motels, and the limited number of rental homes permitted, keep Manzanita relatively tranquil. There are enough businesses to keep things interesting (restrauants, taverns, shops, etc.). The only thing missing is big box stores - but that is by plan, and a good thing. Lovely little town. It also has the "summer do-nut hole" when it is often sunny, while clouds from the north wrap around Mt. Neahkania. Golf, beach walks...great place.

I think there is a limit, something like 20% of homes that can be permitted as vacation rentals.

According to Wikipedia the entire town is within 1 square mile? Is that true??

No, it is the case in Manzanita that we don't like short term rentals. People who use them are very often loud and disrespectful

Definitely extremely dog friendly, there's a pet store geared for small to large dogs and they have toys, bowls, and even beds. It's can be pretty pricey tho.

Locals are frustrated. Don’t buy unless you mean to be there and invest in what is left of the community 😢
