Written 10 years before Berwald's 1st and 2nd symphonies, makes you wonder if he knew this symphony. And an excellent symphony it is.

Excellent music. Same vibrant cheerfulness as Berwald in his symphonies.

The third movement is really powerful and emotionally moving.

Reading Wikipedia on Lindblad I am glad to learn that he was a good friend of Mendelssohn and was financially well-off enough to compose freely. But most of the article tries to define him in terms of the classical masters, Haydn. Mozart, Beethoven. This is surely missing the point. He was himself! And happy with it - or so it seems from this symphony. It is not dependent on other composers. We should rid ourselves of this cult of personality! Listen to the Symphony as a Symphony. A type of musical philosophy - it doesn't matter who wrote it - just listen to the damned thing! This is Lindblad writing his own symphony!! Bravo!!!

Great orchestration, lyricism and some humour-- what else is needed? I agree about the third movement.

In the Presto, I think I hear already the fresh sounding of Brahms' 2d Serenade.
