Beyond the parties and its dangerous reputation, what's New Orleans really like? I connected with people who live there to see another side of one of America's most visited cities.

Tree is such a wonderful human being! 😌 I met him back in 2013 when he ran his own tour company called Racontours. He was ranked #1 on TripAdvisor under the Things to Do category FOR ALL OF NEW ORLEANS!!! What a guy! …did I mention he was King of the Mardi Gras?

As an Aussie, I fell in love with the look and vibe from watching NCIS but I wanted to see more, Thank you I just love the architecture. I'm disabled and could never go and see for myself and the thought of visiting America doesn't interest me except for New Orleans. Please do another and maybe visit the cemeteries as I hear there's a lot of history. Thank you again from a little town in SW Victoria Australia.

I am a former tour guide at the Old Ursuline Convent ay Baracks and Chartres corner. Tree is exactly perfect in his narration! Blessings. ❤❤❤

I love NOLA, always something to do, great music, festivals, museums, etc. My first trip there was back in the 80s for a technical conference and have been back many, many times. When younger, I was a nice looking redhead and was as they say "built", but never had a problem in New Orleans ever!! Had problems in NYC, Atlanta, Boston, LA, Vegas, Chicago, Orlando, etc/etc/etc. At one time I wanted to live there and maybe in my heart of hearts still do.

I consider NOLA my "second city" and it is, without a doubt, the PEOPLE that make it so special. I've never had a bad time there. (Just...don't go in the summer unless you like being sweaty.)

Jazz fest was never held in (New Orleans) City Park, that event started in Armstrong Park in Treme' and outgrew that location which they relocated it to the Fair ground today! ⚜️

I lived there for 1 year cancelled my lease early and left the city because of how shitty it was

Notice how the tour guide is on a bicycle. There are no bicycle tours unless it is in the tourist areas.

- 3 homicides in my street alone
- Homeless bums borderline harassing you
- Witnessed retail ransacking/theft 6 times at the CVS
- The worst streets I have ever seen with respect to the quality (huge potholes that remained there for the entire time I was there). The city only cares and maintains the tourist areas.
- Huge cockroaches

I've been to nola multiple times, and I have left the FQ and went into the Marigny, and the Bywater, and Mid-City etc.... In my personal experience, 99% of everyone I interacted with was nothing but positive. CAN it be bad? Sure. Like any town. But it depends. As a tourist, you should always know were you're going and when, and be aware of your surroundings. But for the most part, I totally agree with Tree. Even during Mardi Gras. Of course, always watch your back, always look out for pickpockets, and such, but, I can say that I'm going back for my 4th Mardi Gras in a few weeks, and I have no fear. other than the basic caution you should always have anywhere. I hope that made sense.
