The best person to answer a question about Down syndrome is a person with Down syndrome. Julia answers this one.

-------------------
Down syndrome isn’t curable or preventable. It just happens. There are lots of treatments to help people with Down syndrome who have potential heart problems, and help us with some speech issues. I hope that answers your question.

I hope not!
Health problems may need to be addressed.
People who have no exposure or experience with downsydrome are the ones who need help.
These typical people walking around everywhere and everyday, thinking about nothing more than how to get from point A to B!
Round and round they go! How can I get this thing or that. How can I please my boss, impress my friend, lie to myself?
I wish I were beautiful like you.
I’m thankful to have been blessed with my 2 year old daughter Jewel who has trisomy 21.
So thankful for her to come to us and bring real knowledge.

I think an equally valid question is are peoples abusive attitudes to down syndrome curable. Is the bullying of people with down syndrome curable. Is the patronising of them and the treating of them as second class citizens curable. Is the ghettoization of them by stealth which often takes place curable. I think much can be done about this through education in schools. People need to learn that nobody but nobody is a disability. Disabilities are something some people indeed many people happen to have among many many other qualities. I have spent a lot of my life being depressed. No-one would say of me Richard is depression. They would say Richard has depression if it had to be mentioned at all. But so many times I have heard people say so and so is down syndrome. As though their disability is all they are. Or even so and so is downs. It is so insulting it makes me sick. But I do not have down syndrome myself. The most important views by far are from those who do have it. I am always deeply interested in what they say about this issue. People need to listen.
