If Dingos do not interbreed with dogs under natural conditions why was it so hard to find a specimen which had not interbred with dogs?

Dingos, dogs, and wolves are all the same species. They can breed offspring that's capable of having offspring, and they can communicate with and live with each other.

Dingo's are a species of wild dog.

I keep noticing dingoes with curled tails, which is usually characteristic of domesticated dogs. No wolves, foxes, coyotes, or hyenas have curled tails the way dogs do, but dingoes do.

So you’re saying that my domestic dingo cross isn’t a dog... Just because of his breed? Well I’m telling you now, he’s just about the same as any “real dog” out there. He loves, he sleeps, he barks (and howls), he eats DOG FOOD, he cuddles and he makes friends with dogs. Just because he’s part of the Canis Lupus family doesn’t mean anything. Yes, he is part wolf but he’s still a beautiful dog. 💕

I can say that dingos are dogs, I owned one for about 6 years till she passed away from a tumor. Between the ages of 1 and 3 they can learn so many tricks as well as social behavior. She lived with my mastiff and learned to bark (which became annoying after a while) and learned to protect. She was awesome, not only are they beautiful they are also very protect. My dingo (sandy) never left my side. Always wanting approval for chasing birds, or running for a squirl. But I did learn that when owning a dingo to only wash then once a year. They clean themselves and it's not that good for them. Weird. But they are dogs and awesome pets.

RIP sandy. Best dog I ever had.

In the phylogenetic species concept, wolves, dingoes, and domestic dogs all belong to various subspecies of the same species: Canis lupus. Thus, dingoes and dogs are both wolves. Dogs were probably domesticated from southern wolves like the Iranian or Arabian wolf some 30, 000 years ago. Dingoes were part of that domestication, and should not be classified as a separate species. The morphological differences among wild wolves, dingoes, and domestic dogs are trivial at the species level. Dingoes should be conserved, but redefining them as a separate species is not the way to do it.

What a load of bull. Dingos ARE dogs. Like domestic dogs and grey wolves they belong to the species Canis lupus. They are not separate. They are only part of a SUBspecies, Canis lupus dingo.

Dingoes are still dogs.

Sure they may be in their own little group, but they belong to the *_Canis_* genus, the same genus wolves, coyotes, and all domestic dogs belong to. Dingoes are wild canines like wolves and coyotes, but they are still fundamentally dogs.

Dingos: Canis Lupus Dingo
Dogs: Canis Lupus Familiaris
Can the interbreed? Yes. Are the offspring fertile? Yes. Are dingos dogs? Yes.

This is nonsense - labelling the dingo as a separate species because it is reluctant to breed with domestic dogs in natural conditions 1) The dingo is at risk of extinction because of natural breeding with domestic dogs 2) It is virtually impossible to tell the difference between a dingo, a dog, and a wolf via DNA 3) Most breeds of dogs show a preference for their own breed.

wow you got your taxonomy totally totally wrong... both dogs and dingos are subspecies of canis lupus (gray wolf)

AvihooI

wrong they are all subspecies of wolves. grey wolves canis lupus. dingos canis lupus dingo. dogs canis lupus familiaris.

SEE?! I knew wolves didn't match! I still believe foxes were used to make the dog we love today. Dingo like canines could have been used for the bigger breeds, but so many spitz breeds resemble and behave like foxes that I don't think it should be ruled out. I'm sure wolves were introduced for breeds such as german shepherds and siberian huskies, but I think foxes are the top.

dingos are part of the genius canis and any thing in this genius is a dog so a dingo is a dog

His facts have been disproved dingos are canis lupus dingo not canis dingo rendering then a subspecies of dog. It has also been proven that dogs, wolves and dingo alike have come from the mega fauna wolves
