Stock can drop from top to bottom and still be a 60 bagger. All this in 10y. investing is a very long journey where our temperament gets tested. have to have the capacity to suffer for long periods. have lived through the examples above, naming the stock today is pointless.

It is not the amount of income coming in, it is what you keep.

Mindset is very important. We all tend to "fall back" to where we came from. A new mindset is often required to get to where you want to go. Many things in my life seemed impossible to my prior self or people I grew up with, but now it's reality for me.

It’s very true. I still don’t consider myself wealthy at all even though I’m in the 10% and have a net worth over half a million. Coming from a lower middle class blue collar family I think is a huge reason I think this way.

I think the problem is that people that do make more than middle class, don't always have consistent income.
Many people will make 130k one year, and then 70k the next year.

That makes them believe they are middle class, because they can't be both middle and upper class at the same time.
I consider myself middle class / upper middle class, even though my income is within the top 10% in the area that I live, and top 3% for my age group.

The definition really doesn't work because people in HCOL areas might make more than the middle class definition, but they live worse than a lot of people around them.
Additionally, people in LCOL areas might make more than 90% of the people living there but their income doesn't match the definition of 'upper class'.

In regards to not having the amount as the goal, what should be the goal? I'm in a situation where I made it to 'my number' and you're dead right -I'm now feeling lost. I cut back my work hours and started a small business in an entirely different career but am currently unmotivated to hustle hard anymore.

I thought top 1% has been floating in the $300-$400k range recently. News to me!

Is a single 35 year old with 220k net worth poor if they make 40k a year?
