Remove Hooks from Deep-Hooked Fish With Minimal Harm

Показать описание
It's an unfortunate occurrence for all anglers - sometimes fish swallow the bait resulting in your hook point being buried deep in the gullet with little chance of safe removal through conventional means.

FEATURED PRODUCT:

We owe the fish and resource our best effort at clean extraction.
The safest and most expedient method for a clean removal is rolling the hook backward via needle nose entry through the gills. Wired2Fish's Mitch Anderson demonstrates the procedure that easily removes the deepest hooks with little tear or damage to the fish beyond the initial hookset and fight. Let 'em go to grow and fight another day with a high probability of survival!

I watched this video 2 days ago and today I caught a 4lb 8oz bass that was badly gut hooked. I used this tip and got the hook out without a drop of blood lost. Well done!

Beautiful work. You can also knock down all hook barbs prior to heading out on the water. I've done this for years and haven't noticed any fish getting off the line. Hooks come out like needles without the barbs. No harm no foul.

thanks for posting this, last year I killed a bass because I couldn't get the hook out correctly and I couldn't go fishing for 6 months because I felt so bad. Now I feel more comfortable knowing how to prevent doing the same after watching this.

THANK As the Conservation Director for the NY BN, I have shown many people this easy, fish saving technique!! I am constantly amazed at the amount of people that still insist on cutting the line/leaving the bass with this impaled hook inside. Old wives tale that it will rust out. Maybe years ago when hooks were not the quality metal they are today, but I'm pretty sure most fish today would eventually be compromised enough by remaining hooks to either succumb because of inability to feed /swallow properly, or from eventual internal complications resulting from the internal hook injury. In smaller fish, it helps to have a large pair of stainless steel hemostats - they are very smooth and have less potential for gill injury!!
BRAVO!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK

What a great tip! Thanks SO MUCH! If I ever gut hook a fish I would always quit fishing for the day because that’s my rule. I hate it when that happens but now I have a way to fix that without hurting the fish 👍

Thank goodness you showed this! I’ve felt so bad over the years by just cutting the line and letting them go.

This is a very helpful video. I thought I might add that when I am catching and release, I usually take a pair of plyers and crimp the barb of the hook. Of course, to keep from losing them you must keep pressure on the line. It's a bit more challenging but a lot of fun. And getting the hook out without the barb is much easier.

I completely forgot this technique. My grandpa showed me this when I was young and forgot today when I needed it the most. Thank you for refreshing my memory!

Thank you, I really appreciate you showing this. I've seen Damian Tao do this on his videos but I wasn't sure what he was doing. Nicely illustrated well done!

When i was a kid i had no idea how to remove hooks and had no adults around me who knew anything about fishing. So when i couldn’t figure out how to remove a hook that was gut hooked, I panicked due to the fear of the fish dying because its out of water for too long. So i cut the line released it hook-in. Knowing I probably just killed the fish. Im not a vegan, but I fish for sport, so unintentionally killing a fish always upset me. Thats why I want to learn how to do this properly. So thank you for making this video

More people need to know how to do this imo. Well done. It's so easy if you know what your doing and have the right tool.

He must bend the barb back prior to fishing. It's always a good idea to bend the barbs back into the hook base. Sometimes you'll lose them but it's well worth it to keep good fish population

Rapala makes a tool for just this purpose. No gill interference as you go straight in with a u hook, grab the hook at its u, puts the pressure on the hook to flip over and out. I feel confident in every fish that I've unfortunately deep hooked, releasing it with minimal damage.
