Ismail Haniyeh Assassinated In Tehran, Hamas Slams “Zionist” Strike, Iran Promises Probe

Hamas confirmed that Ismail Haniyeh, the head of its political bureau, was killed in Tehran on July 31. In a statement, the Palestinian political and military movement said there had been an airstrike on Haniyeh's residence in Tehran. Hamas mourned Haniyeh’s death, stating “brother, leader, mujahid Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the movement died in a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran." Haniyeh was killed “after he participated in the inauguration of the new (Iranian) president,” the Hamas statement read.

Can someone explain to me how an airstrike would work here? Israel is not really a next door neighbor and a long range missile is detectable. I don’t believe Israeli planes could fly into and out of Iran passing over all the other countries as well without being noticed.
