ClearSource RV Water Filter Review and Install Mod

In this video, I review the Clearsource RV Water Filter System. It's a dual stage water filter system that comes with its own metal stand. They use stainless steel connections, oversized canisters, and premium filters. There aim is it make the highest quality RV water filter on the market.

I also show how I modified the Clearsource metal stand to mount on my fifth wheel trailers bumper. It will make it convenient for water fills to my freshwater tank for dry camping and save storage space. Then I hit the road to demo the setup at a rest stop spigot before hitting the California desert for some dry camping.

Love your videos Ray!! I've built my own filter system using the very same canisters bought off Amazon. I think they were $20 each and I have 3 of them inline.. All brass fittings between them and on the ends and the system is mounted to a 2x4 with a strap system that I can throw over a tire and hang it there while camping.. The system consist of a 1 micron pre filter and then an activated alumina filter then a 3 micron carbon filter.. Been using this setup for 2 years now and my family love the taste of the water and the best part is I have less than $120 into the system.. Systems such as you've reviewed in this video are good for the people with money to burn but the thing I like about you is that your a DIY kinda guy.. Maby suggest to your viewers that while this is a good system there is an option as good if not better for cheaper and show them how to build it themselves.. Cheers..

I used to work for a water filtration company. Those filters are 10" commercial size, the type you might find inside a filtered water vending machine or soda dispenser. I use similar filters under my RV sink, but the are 5" to take up less space. You can find them on line. All filters eventually build up bacteria and should be replaced about once a year no matter how many gallons of water have passed through them. Enjoy your clean water!

Thanks for the extensive review! You are a valuable resource to RVers. Safe travels.

Drawback that I see, (besides the price. . ., ) is the size. Unless you have a Class A with bus-style under-belly storage, most campers wouldn't be able to have it mounted inside. While you have a good idea mounting it outside, I don't think I'd want to do that. $200.00 can buy a LOT of Camco in-line filters. Been using them with no problems, and will keep doing so!

Happy New Year!

They look like a great idea. My only thought was they need a drain on the bottom of both blue filters for freeze protection. That's so good for the dessert water supplies and even the nasty California water.

That looks like it's going to work great. Nice install very neat and functional

You may think about making a small cover to put over the filter system. That would also keep the dust out of your valves while traveling down the road. Maybe even include a pocket to hold your hose in.

I have almost the same filter, but only one filter. Use the charcoal filter. Only use it to fill up the holding tank once a week. But I have 120 gallons fresh water storage on board. Never hook up to get water from a spicket directly to supply and pressurize my system, always use the 12 volt pump inside to supply pressure for the sink, shower and toilet. I even have a outside hose bib for water.

a good cover for ther debris  get into the filer openings is the rubber legs that are use for the legs on chairs.  I did that for my lock on my trailer hitch cover area for my cylinder lock as to prevent dirt getting into the key lock works great

We camp mostly in the Rockies and coast, and forget the “sketchy " water you may need to draw in dessert areas. If you put to rest the healthy water question plus eliminating the crud the that builds up in the water heater valves etc. using this solidly built system, ( assuming that the manufacture is suggesting the those blue containers are UV resistant and will not break-down under the sunlight), it should be worth the initial cost.

Funny thing - we have a three-stage water filtration system which we've mounted to the bumper of our travel trailer. The water in Quartzsite was the worst and the three-stage filter makes all the difference in the world. For peace of mind we've also put a water pressure regulator on the output side of the filter.

Thank you! I like the water filters, will have to check into those once you complete your review.

I built one just like this system, but mine in a Rubbermaid tub with the ends coming out the side.  Try putting a "hose quick disconnect" on the ends to keep dirt out. I like the steel housing for the filters but the $$$ is a little to high. Because mine rides in the back of the truck the plastic tub works great to catch drips and its light weight.

Good Job Ray! Nice set-up, and good spot. You could even use it with the boondocking pump. I think I may have filled up at that spot before????
Happy Trails...Pal!!!

Having thoughts. First I would worry about someone taking the filter off just to piss me off. Second if you have it faced the other way it may catch less road debris from driving

Might be a good idea to pour the water out of the canisters after use. Since they are not under pressure. Better still take the filters out so they can dry, storing they in the RV and put them in when needed

I really like it mounted on the bumper, it would be nice if the blue canister could be enclosed as not to worry if they worked loose and fell off.

Thanks, Ray this was a good review & the system has good reviews on Amazon so we ordered one as well can't hurt to have better water in the rig, we will not mount ours as we are not full timers yet.

I was just thinking... You don't want to remove chlorine from water that will be stored. You don't say that the filter uses carbon, so it is probably fine. Carbon filters should be installed at the faucet. The chlorine will help keep the water safe in the tank and lines.
