JS, like C, was written to provide a tool for getting stuff done, and was used to get stuff done, long before anybody gave thought to the long-term development of the language.

Javascript was a mistake 100%. Companies should've gotten together at one point and make a proper Javascript based on Java itself or something and let people switch from current javascript to it. And javascript would die with time, same as Flash died out. Then remove support of it, same as happened with Flash.

JavaScript is a great language. The fact that everything is accomplished with functions and objects, even higher level functionality like classes, is genius.
A lot of languages have some "dark corners" of ambiguity and misinterpretation, for example Python and PHP (although I am not sure how you can avoid PHP's type juggling) and it's generally acceptable to say in these cases that you should avoid using those parts of the language, but when it comes to JavaScript some people are not that generous I get? Why?
You can write great, deterministic and readable JavaScript, and you can write bad JavaScript, it's all up to you.
