I'm glad she said that they dont eat just veggies on Ikaria, I lived there for couple months when was in my teens due to war that was going on in Serbia, I have aunt there that married Greek guy, and I had chance to see what they eating there. Yeah they it lots of Mediterranean veggies, but they eat good amount of meet as well, and surprisingly quite some amount of pork meat. Like blue zones book to me is just propaganda. Also i watched ones some documentary about Sardinia, and they were filming family eating, and reporter was saying here is the traditional family in sardinia they mostly eat vegetables as you can see, and in background you can tell on table is pretty much only pork prosciutto and bacon, and I was like why they doing this whats wrong saying yeah they eat meet and they are still healthy. When i was growing up in europe i never heard in my life that meat is bad for you, was always quite opposite, it was always you have to eat more meat. Only place where I heard that meat is bad for you is north america. To me that was so weird when i moved here.

Brain, this episode was positively amazing. I love your podcast for the abundance of magnificent guests where you don't just reiterate the same cookie cutter interviews that so frequently happens when a speaker will make the rounds on the health/wellness podcast circuit. Even with the strong catalouge of guests you've already interviewed, today might have just jumped to the top of a very competitive list! Truly, this was enthralling.
Thank you for the work that you do and please keep it up the phenomenal content as it's always a pleasure when I see you've released a new episode.

About 10 mins into Mary explaining her symptoms after taking antibiotics I knew she had a B1 thiamine deficiency. Dysautonomia and POTS are symptoms. My mom had the condition for years until I stumbled upon Elliot Overton's youtube channel. Whole foods animal based diet will help as well due to the B vitamins. A megadose of TTFD thiamine (with magnesium) could had perked her right up as it did with my 78yr old mother. She had Beriberi, which is a central nervous malnutrition state. None of her doctors helped just giving her more drugs with no help.

Would a podcast with Elliot Overton be in Food Lies' future? He's a certified nutritionist as well in the UK and also a huge advocate of keto-carnivore diet that he uses to treat his patients

I'm experiencing what Mary went through, but from covid. Even down to the dysautonomia and autoantibodies along with 80+ symptoms. Ive been bedridden since March 2020 and recently regained my sight and ability to read and lift my own glass of water. Still have a ways to go but I know I will overcome this. Thanks for the inspiration Mary. ❤️🐄

The older people being self sufficient as much as possible is a cultural attitude about not being a burden to the extended family and the matriarch/patriarch actively contribute to the well-being of the whole family until death. The elders also often live with the eldest son and love to involve themselves in marital and personal matters. Swings and roundabouts 😂

Very much enjoyed this interview. But...what happened to the rest of the conversation on Schziophrenia? It sounds like it was edited out. I was really waiting to hear it...I have an adult daughter who "suffers" in the true sense of the word, from Schziophrenia. :(
