I was always told to stop eating after you have eaten somewhat and BEFORE you feel full. It seems that the body's impulse of feeling full could actually take a moment or two AFTER you have stopped eating. To wait until you FEEL full (as in a large Thanksgiving meal) could cause you to overeat and become uncomfortable.
