Het Nieuwe Normaal - God Sized (Official Videoclip)

"God Sized" is the third and final single from the upcoming EP "Bad Habits by Het Nieuwe Normaal. The song addresses a sharp and topical theme: personality cult and the dangers of power. The lyrics reflect on public figures with an almost mythical status, such as Donald Trump or Jim Jones, as well as on a personal battle with depression and existential crisis. This layering makes ‘God Sized’ a layered song, in which the social and the personal merge.
The title is derived from the catchphrase in the chorus: “Nothing but a god sized asshole in a man sized world.” With this, the band paints the picture of someone who will do anything for power, only to eventually realize that there is nothing left – except an ego of godly proportions.

Musically, ‘God Sized’ shows a fusion of influences such as The Black Angels, The Beatles and Queens of the Stone Age. A dynamic contrast that has become typical for Het Nieuwe Normaal.

The recording process of ‘God Sized’ was a search for balance between raw energy and layered production. To create a psychedelic and ‘other-worldly’ sound, the band experimented with tambura drones and ambient guitar techniques.
The song was radically reworked several times during the writing process, a typical characteristic of Het Nieuwe Normaal’s working method. “Almost all of our songs go through multiple transformations. I really like that, because you end up with something that exceeds your original idea. An essential rule in the band is that every song has to remain acoustically intact, so that the strength of the composition is always central.”

The artwork and video clip of ‘God Sized’ build on the band’s recognizable style: a vintage rubberhose cartoon style, inspired by early Disney and UbIwerks animations, but also by the video game Cuphead. A game the band played in between recording songs. This playful, nostalgic style clashes with the dark and confrontational theme of the music, creating a tension that forms the common thread throughout the singles and the EP "Bad Habits".
