Watching this looks like you guys got a few of our California serpentine which looks a lot like a Jade. Our Jade is usually closer to a black than a green.

Hey great video, just a precautionary note however with the whole abalone shells you find, especially since your memorializing it on youtube, check with California's Department of Fish and Game. Unless something has changed in the last 15 or 20 years without a fishing license and Abalone stamp up in the Fort Bragg area they were ticketing and excessively fining any of us that collected those if they were out of season, undersized or over our limit for the trip. I only say this so hopefully you will not have any issue's with our fish and game wardens! Never hurts to be cautious just in case!

hello Frank & Kyndall, my names George L. Breiling, and i'm a direct descendant to the Pfeiffer family. my great grandfather was married to Wilhelmina Pfeiffer. anyway, long story short, the Pfeiffer's were immigrants from the highlands of Germany (Bavaria) and were sailing to California to start a new life here. everything was going accordingly, until they met up with a helluva storm and the ship crash landed at Jade Cove (or somewhere nearby, not sure where exactly, but close to there.) the ship was destroyed and they salvaged what they could and homesteaded BIG SUR. I've heard many, MANY, stories passed down generations upon generations that the jade at Jade Cove was all faux and just really pretty druzy or just serpentine or soapstone. I've found many pieces myself, and they all were some kinda jade or were on the fringe of turning from a jasper to a jade bearing matrix. anyway, i encourage anyone to look for themselves at the rocks, do the tests on the stones, (i.e. the scratching glass, or the steel test. certainly the opaqueness/translucency test by shining a bright flashlight into the rock to see if you can get any light thru it. jade is super hard and dense, cold to the touch even after sitting in the sun all day long. the only thing that jade doesn't touch it all is diamond. everything else bounces off the mineral. scraping steel will most definitely be a sure sign of how absolutely hard real jade is... ..and how difficult it can be to find there. its crazy how abundant it really is there. piney Creek campgrounds just opposite the beach on the other side of Highway 1, is the family camping facility i grew up going to. lotsa fond memories with family and friends there. im glad you enjoyed the experience and excitement of making a nice find of a beautiful stone piece. in fact, if you were to visit the Pacific Grove museum of natural History, there is a piece of jade rock about 5 feet long, by about 2-3 feet tall and at least 2-3 feet wide as you enter the premises. it must weigh at least a ton, (2, 000 lbs.) if not more. its a B.F.R. if ya picking up what I'm throwing down, ya know? another great spot to go mining locally for gemstones is the Benitoite mine in san benito county near Bitterwater and Tres Pinos. its the only place in the world so far to produce gem quality stones of that type. they do all day excursions lunch package deals for a relatively good price and you keep what ya find 100%. they even appraise your finds on the way out of the place. lookem up. google. having said all this, i know of a few local locations for LOTS of other stones that can be lucrative as well, but not gonna give those up so freely I guess. gotta leave a bit for the imagination to wrestle with lol. 💪🤣🤣🤣💯😂😂😁 happy hunting and thank you for making good videos to show what the place is like. its really a unique micro-climate here in monterey county. total Mediterranean feel, like the french wine country in Europe. always a balmy 72°F fog inthe morning and in the evening. blustery winds in the afternoon until dark. be safe, be kind, and remember if someone says its LEVERITE, they are full of sh*t. thats the oldest joke in the book lol. as for me, im going jading AND gold mining here in California. both go together hand in hand. quartz is there with them as well. again, enjoy! 💯💪🙋🇺🇲😉😁

I found a fist sized Big Sur Jade! In my flowerbed at home. Previous owner liked to pick up pretty rocks on California beaches and toss them in her ‘rock garden’. It cut and polished nicely.

Amazing finds. I tried to get to Jade Cove a few years ago, but it's quite hidden, and the path has disintegrated so much it felt scary trying to get down there. I can't imagine how you guys got out after dark.

Nice! You guys found some lovely pieces!

If you ever want to hunt for jade in Wyoming, I'd enjoy guiding you to some of the best locations! I can also show you a cave full of Youngite. Though collecting is prohibited there, it's worth the trip. The entire cave is lined with white drusy quartz. It sucks to hit your head! Druzy draws blood!

I wish that I could've shown you some of my "Big Sur Jades" that I found at the Beach Break, that's called THE WILD HOOK, both of my favorite rocks, are the size of my palms, one is blackish-green & the other is a minty-teal green. I keep them together, until I can make a wire wrap of each stone.
