this happens to me alot when in super close engagements, the shell spawns slightly down the barrel thus making these things prone to happen

That was the SU85 that killed you, not your own shell

I don't want to criticize you, but if you look closely, you can see that the SU-85 killed you. When you're shooting while your barrel is in another tank the shell still spawns at the end of the barrel, but first travels without a hitbox back to the point where the gun is "hitting" the armor plate and from then starts to penetrate. Coz if you would have killed yourself, he wouldn't have got the kill. And btw when you're torpedoing yourself you also get no damage.
