DIY Dry Hi-Hat | Answering Most Asked Question About My Drum Set (Drum Hack)

In this video I'm talking about my own kind of "DIY Dry Hi-Hat", which is my current go-to hi-hat!
I combined old crashes and created a 16" dry hi-hat that turned out to sound pretty good and I've used it for at least 2 years now.

Even though we all love to buy new and exciting cymbals, you don't want to forget that old, broken cymbals can be used for a new, different purspose!
If you have one or two cracked crash cymbals - turn it into something else! Don't throw it away... you have nothing to lose from it at this point!

You could definitely say that I got inspired by @rdavidr for this video 😎

For bass drum you can take the the beater and shift the rod down and put a wine cork on the other end. So that gives you a beater on the down and up strokes.

I once made a fantastic little pair of hi hat's using a 10 inch sabian AA rock splash (very thick andheavy and it had a huge bell) for bottom and a 10 inch sabian b8 splash top. Chunky and choppy and warm despite the diminuitive size

The hi-hat sounds great and what a cool way to get that sound (or any other sound you want) by combining different crashes!
At some point I guess we all need to buy new cymbals, but the more you can save the better!!
