Here's Why I Bought a BMW M4 Instead of an M2

I got asked this question a lot when I first debuted my new car for the channel and I think the natural expectation was that I was going to get an M2 coming from the 2 series platform already. However, that wasn't the case and I hope my justification makes sense to most of my viewers. Thanks for watching and make sure to leave a like and subscribe for more!

Speaking as an M2C owner, if i were buying used, i'd go M4 over OG M2. They're both awesome cars, but the S55 is a beast and it doesn't hurt to have a nicer interior with more goodies. The longer wheelbase will make it more comfortable as well since it looks like you plan on dailying that thing. Congrats on the ride, I enjoy watching your channel!

as an M2 owner i definitely agree with the weight. I own a ‘16 N55 M2, and even for the non comp version it is a bulky car, although id say BMW does a good job of masking its hefty curb weight

I have MY20 M2C DCT- you can add carbon fiber roof carbon fiber fenders and hood to the car and it significantly reduce his weight. I had the opportunity to purchase a heritage edition M4 and a fully loaded M4 with executive package. After test driving back to back on the dealership parking lot the M2 competition just felt that much better I love the stubbornness about it and I feel like the M2 competition will end up becoming more of a classic sports car in the M4.

Nice video! I recent bought an M2 this past November. I was a die hard M4 fan and test drove that too, but I fell for the M2 driving experience much fun on the curves! Both are awesome cars!

Been fortunate enough to drive both M2 and M4, multiple examples of both even, like you would definitely pick the M4. The M2 is effectively the same car but with about 5in chopped out of the wheelbase, feels a little bit more nimble although I think the main difference is down to running on narrower tyres. Overall, does feel that little bit more playful, willing to break grip more easily. On the other hand, the M4 has more power in stock form, weighs the same, has more grip and a better overall balance. Also, by _far_ the better looking of the two and has a _significantly_ nicer cabin, seats alone are a big upgrade and there are lots of small details that are just better on the M4. Plus, the M4 can comfortably carry 4 if needed where the M2 back seats are barely usable. Really not impressed with the M2 cabin, doesn't feel nearly special enough for a car that costs this much. M4 is just so much more car for the money.

Good luck. I bought an M2C. Love the S55. I get what your saying as much of an upgrade from the M235. I had that too, and traded up to the M2C. Prices on the M4 are lower right now because of demand on the M2 even with its N55. I agree the S55 is the way to go. With the extra HP upgrade, the M4 will kick its tail. The M2 is heavier than I thought. It does dive in to corners a bit harder. But your Car is gorgeous. Good luck with it.

M4 is better for high speeds and the M2 non-comp handles so well on a short track. i've owned both, and now own an M2. do love the S55. The M4 starting in 2018 does not get a carbon drive shaft. the M4 looks betters in the front, but the M2's ass is so nice! both nice cars either way!!

M4 is such a handsome coupe. The upcoming new M3/M4 will not look nowhere near as pretty--I just know it.

From an M2 owner, great choice on the M4. Agree with your comments.
I'm planning on upgrading to an F80 M3 Comp soon...

Just keep in mind, there are proven issues with some early model carbonfibre driveshaft. It can tear apart, and cause some very bad issues - and injuries as well.
You might want to check it out. Also there is an issue with S55 connecting rod bearing - to prevent this to fail and cause your engine to basically blow up, you need to spend around ~10000$ for a shop to do it (basically you need to tear down the entire engine and engine bay and front of the car to do it). This issue will come up especially if you start "racing" or driving hard your car - but even if not, it could still happen (but lower chance).
You can also expect (hopefully not) issues with the Automatic gearbox, if it wasnt maintained well.
Turbos can fail after/around 100-120k kms
To be honest, M4 is a very nice car, but with all the reliability issues it comes, even if its a "bargain" at that price - i would not buy it.
It is cheap because of the maintenance cost the car has. Of course if its not an issue for you price-wise, then its a great car.
Enjoy the car & drive safe :)

Any truth to the M4 steering feeling vague and disconnected compared to the M2? That is what kept me away from the M4.
