Intelligent and insightful overview of the tech sales world. I'm an introvert and have been working in research science for 15 years. 7 years, failed postdoc at Rockefeller and then another 7 years, finally got my PhD from GSU in neuroscience. I have experience mentoring students, giving research presentations, and managing research projects, but a lot of it (outside of the presentations, which I am still dislike and am still pretty mediocre with) was one-on-one mentoring or conversations and a lot of solo work. I am very introverted, and I admit that I still lack some social skills. The biggest stumbling block I foresee is my introverted personality followed by people questioning why I am starting from zero in an entirely new industry (why not pursue an academic research position, since this is what you have been training for your entire life). Given these roadblocks, deciding whether this is really a good career decision or if I'll end up with zero, particularly if I quit my current postdoc position to pursue tech sales interviews and internship full time. A lateral move from a bank rep to tech sales makes sense, my story, not so much, yet... Trying to figure it out. (The real reason is that I am burned out with academia, but I don't think that answer would translate well in interviews.)

Great video and information. I did laugh when you said the internet has only been around for 10 years, lol. Internet started for home uss in 1995 lol. It has been almost 30 years now, but I get your point, especially compared to banking it is definitely new.
