I like that matilda and emma's outfits are usually more "realistic" than other influencers, but it is true that some people go way overboard thinking they're major fashion icons. except maybe for bestdressed

the reason i like Matilda Djerf and Emma's just-shorts-and-tank-top outfits is because it is easy to emulate for someone who lives out in the suburbs where everything is incredibly casual. wearing literally anything but leggings and a hoodie, or something like lulu lemon shorts for summer time, is seen as a bit stylish and "out there." most of these basic influencer outfits would definitely be seen as stylish here, but are tame enough that i would only be a little worried about getting comments from other girls. and, it is helpful to me because copying and taking inspo from these outfits helps me build up basics in my wardrobe as someone who is recently getting into style.

I love bestdressed. I think she is the one influencer that even if has a different style would get a like from me. Like her 50 outfit ideas video!!? I still go back to it and she just styles one thing in so many ways!!? Plus her dotting big sister energy. God i miss her on youtube

Just because someone wears unrealistic extravagant clothes and shoes doesn't simply make them a fashion genius with a 'fit'

I sometimes feel like a weird outfit is automatically labelled "a fit" when in reality - it's just a weird outfit. Devon's first outfit is literally chaotic: saying that it's a good fit is the exact "influencer effect" you're talking about.

Any thing Best Dressed puts together is an outfit and that's why she's an influencer.

I feel like the categories should be “an influencer wore it so it’s cool”, “an outfit that even I, a normie, can wear” and then “it’s cute but chaotic and no normal person could wear this” when it comes to influencer outfits

For me the “influencer” effect isn’t seen so much in an individual photo, but in context of all their content. For me many influencers have a go-to outfit that they repeat over and over again. I was following one influencer who I thought was a minimalist with a capsule wardrobe because of her very neutral looks mostly of neutral pants, blazer and loafers. Turns out she had the same outfit in MULTIPLES. She did a wardrobe clean out on her channel and had rails and rails of similar items. Like 50 beige blazers!!! For me the styling talent lies in multiple very different looks but still tying it all together with your own unique flair. It’s not limited to youth, perfect figures or gender.
Channels I recommend: Um, my own🙈

this is so weird bc I had the exact opposite opinion of all the outfits! Most of the outfits you said were "just an influencer" were what I would call a fit since they were simple, elegant fits! Whereas the ones you called fits were what a lot of people would call influencer style, i.e. no one would walk out on the street like that unless it's a special occasion or if these were influencers creating content.

this was a fun one! i will say, a lot of these outfits aren’t a fit to meeee but i love the composition of the photos! it’s the pictures as a whole that i enjoy from most of these which is kinda interesting since they’re fashion influencers haha

I've never heard of most of these people, but I can see why. They wear very normal clothes, which like makes sense because I think influencers want to be relatable. But personally none of these are outfits I would feel the need to post on insta lol. The fashion people I follow on insta are all very creative and put together things I would never think of, which is why I follow them? Like I want inspiration from fashion influencers, I don't want to just see them in stuff I would throw on to run errands, you know?

I think an interesting take on here is that what makes it a 'fit' is often when there's something we've not seen before - whether its a combination like a windbreaker and sequin skirt, a 'length' thats been out of fashion for a while, a whacky item like a cow sock (personally thought that was a fit, maybe I'll stop buying grey ankle socks no one sees). Our eyes get bored easily and are always looking for new things that shock and delight us <3 (edit: Laini, your videos are really hitting the mark lately, we love to see it!)

I think it's weird to say that something isn't a fit because it's neutral or basic or boring. Like yes, a white top - denim shorts - white socks - black shoes - black purse fit, isn't exciting to the eye and I wouldn't walk past someone and think 'omg, an icon'. But that doesn't make it less of a fit. It's still well composed, reuses colors in a way that makes it all look put together and is cute.
And I think most girls that wear that, don't wear that to stand out or have people turn their heads on the streets. Is casual wear, it's comfortable and it's still I fit, I'd say

Hey girl I'd love so much if you did a video delving into poc and asian fashion and comparing the differences with eurocentric fashion :) i noticed a lot of your content focuses only on euro centric fashion trends and white influencers, but there's so many other trends that I'm able to see just based on my own algorithm (as a latina). A lot of what you call 'trends' I barely ever see, because I'm from a different subculture.

I actually don't like the whole "an outfit being basic used as an insult" attitude, I think some of the most famous fashion icons had very "basic" style like Audrey Heburn and because of this classic look, their outfits are still being emmulated fifty years later. I like styles like Matilda's because I like to dress like that every day and it's more realistic for my closet than buying stuff I would only wear once and never again. Bestdressed's outfits are nice to look at, but I would personally never wear it in real life and that's okay too.

two of my favorite fashion influencers are lara adkins and rui gao. they’re both super bold with their outfits and they’re definitely good to look at for inspo on layering and wearing statement pieces :)

i’d love to see you do this again! i think some good “guidelines” to decide would be are they just pretty? it’s similar to the “are they just skinny” trope… if you cover up their face and just imagine seeing someone wearing that outfit at a park or trader joe’s… would you still like it?
another one could be “can i see someone wearing this in florida” lol

I think I comment on almost every video so I hate to sound like a broken record but you’re truly the saving grace in the fashion community. Your outlooks are always so fresh and honest and you don’t just preach sustainability, you actually practice it yourself which I love. It’s very hard for me not to get easily influenced on tiktok when it comes to buying excessive amounts of new clothes.

Before I even clicked on this my first thought was Emma Chamberlain. No hate towards her, as she is very talented in many other ways, but I do believe she’s the definition of skinny conventionally attractive person not doing much in terms of fashion—-which is something I believe she’s expressed many times. If I remember correctly she said she just likes to be comfortable and just throw “whatever” on and doesn’t really consider herself to be a fashion girly. What I think we can say is that the clothes seem to fit her well and it doesn’t look like she’s trying super hard to be something she’s not, which is commendable!
