I was 18 when I went to see Mr. Slim Whitman. My friend asked if he would sing this song and said, "My friend here was named after this song, could you sing it for her?" He said to me, "Kathleen you come up here on stage and I would love to sing this to you." I can't tell you how wonderful and exciting it was. I at the time had long red (copper penny hair) and when I walked up on stage, he said, "to Kathleen". He sang the whole song right to me... This memory will never fade. I was so mesmerized. Handsome man, beautiful blue eyes, and that wonderful voice. Mom and Dad always played his records, and I was named after this song and Kathleen Mavourneen. What a treasured moment. Thank you Slim Whitman...I will see you in Heaven. I'm now in my 70's and so thankful I found his songs here on U-Tube! 💖

My mom's favourite singer. Miss my mom but will always be grateful she introduced me to Slim Whitman. I'm now coming up to 75years old and just gave my son in law a 6 box set of Slim Whitman L'P records. to say he was happy was a understatement, I'm happy he will treasure those recordings.👑👑👑👑

I used to listen to an Irish Group sing this during Foster Care;- (Towards the End!);- before they had nearly had a Marital Breakdown! One I have been on is: "Crossroads": (Don McClean);- as that was: "Is/Was";- my life;- (And it wasn't much of a Life!);- back then;- (But I had my Gigs!). I'm somewhere else now;- and found myself;- in this: "Germainßhaft";- (In England);- under Christian Management, (Dispute the Wife in that relationship;- "Many!";- years ago, getting me to relate to her as a Spiritual Mother!). "She!";- (Atleast!);- tried to get me in the Scent of Buddhism! In this: "Common Ship"/Community for Mental Health;- (I am prepared to say right now!);- we have a Mixture of Characters! I only just;- (Although I knew of Slim Whitman years ago!);- I have just heard a Comment From a Rebel;- not to play this Tune at the moment;- (Which was Unexpected!);- probably because of Stories that have been expressed in Common Area's;- (of this: "The House of St. Martin"). We are all here for different reasons! I believe my Rhinestone is Obsidian;- and I shall be publishing;- (One day!);- an Auto-Biographical Account of the Abuse I went through in Foster-Care, with her Husband;- (Being a Closures Gay/"Bi?";-Sexual! I know this's possibly a little too-much Information;- but I can say these two were Married under The Mormon Church;- and that they were not happy in their Wedlock! As for Buddhism! I don't speak Faulse Words;- and: "I think";- because I don't know who's reading this;- "To Practice Control and Discipline";- we ALL Suffered at time's;- in that Foster Home: 'The Cuckoo's Nest!'.

I'm writing an essay on this song--could anyone please help me in interpreting the lyrics? Is Kathleen actually dead?
