How to REALLY Stop Irrelevant YouTube Recommendations

Here's how to make your YouTube homepage great again and make sure recommendations are something you'll actually want to watch. It's really quite easy, and this 100% WORKS! To prove it, I'll show you my homepage.

95% of all my recommended videos are ones I've already watched or ones I've already ignored. It's annoying 😑

youtube is awful. it used to be amazing. it would recommend somewhat related content so i would discover so many new and exciting things and end up in the weird side of youtube that was so much fun. now it recommends exactly what i watch to the point that my recommendations are all the same. if i watch one trance music video, every recommendation is a trance video. it's ridiculous.

Youtube has gotten nearly unbearable. Every year they do their absolute best to make themselves worse than the year before.

For anyone who's curious, the "Don't recommend channel" feature isn't very helpful. Even though it says that they will no longer recommend any more videos from the channel you've told not to recommend, they WILL keep on recommending videos from that channel if they happen to be a popular YouTuber. It shows up in your recommendations again after some time has passed, and it's annoying.

My perception is that the recommendations algorithm has changed markedly for the worse within the past six months or so. I seem to spend half my time now going through my Home page telling YT not to recommend content from a particular channel again, only for that instruction to be ignored. I wish I could permanently blacklist channels from my Home page, even if I subscribe to them. And if I happen to watch a few videos on a particular subject one day, I don't want to see my Home page persistently clogged with similar content, which is what is happening now.

What you've described is what the average youtube user does. It doesn't work. Youtube sucks at recommending these days.

Half of the recommendations I get are videos I watched in the past day or two. Then the algorithm gets into a funk where 90% of what it recommends are from one category, as if that's the only category I watch. It's not that the algorithm doesn't know what to show me. It doesn't recommend new videos from at least half of the channels I'm subscribed to. Seems like YouTube has configured the algorithm to try to steer me where YouTube wants me to be, whether to maximize advertising revenue or to push YouTube's politics.

Me: removes 30 videos from recommendation that i dont want to watch

I leave comments, I subscribe, I like the videos I like. About 75% of my homepage is still random nonsense clickbait or videos in languages I don't even speak, and I'm literally the only person who uses the account/computer. It's not as easy as "just interact lmao" for a lot of us, and the algorithim even two years later has increasingly became worse for me and many others. Saying "I'm not interested/don't recommend me this channel" also does absolutely nothing, seeing as how I get the same channels and same garbage clickbait come around a day later. At one point I even tried to dislike videos I had no interest in watching, but they honestly seemed to push them to put MORE of the same videos on my recommended so I had to stop.

Really appreciate the advice and all that, but.. it's clear there's some issues or that youtube simply doesn't care and wants you to consume whatever they shove in your face regardless of your interests if you get caught up in a bad way with it.

YouTube recommendation algorithm is a deliberate hostile environment. YouTube wants fear, nightmares and constant injection of dreadful ads.

I accidentally click on ONE video that has less a hundred views, of some random guy playing baldur's gate, and now I get it on my home page all the time right near the top. Every time I say "Not interested" or "Don't recommend channel" and the next time I check youtube I just see another one just like it.

The issue with me is that YouTube recommends terrible videos. Like videos that ruin your day.
