Written by Mark Barkan and Dee Fuller. Arranged by Phil Sloan and Steve Barri. Produced by Lou Adler.

One side of a terrific double-sider in a catalog of great recordings made by Shelley Fabares, who starred alongside Elvis in three films and had a #1 record on Colpix with “Johnny Angel” in 1962.

“Lost Summer Love” (and its flipside, “I Know You’ll Be There”) were among the first recordings for Lou Adler’s Dunhill organization. (Shelley married Lou in 1964.) The Dunhill label did not start issuing records until the following year – Shelley’s “Pretty Please” / “My Prayer” as Dunhill 4001 was the first release on the label – so “Lost Summer Love” was leased to VJ.

Both sides of this record were covered in the UK by Lorraine Silver; first on Pye in 1965 with a re-issue on Casino Classics in 1978. In both cases Lorraine’s “a” and “b” sides were exactly the same as Shelley Faberes’.

It was among her last recordings but Shelley continued to succeed as an actress appearing in many TV roles (such as Coach Armstrong’s wife in “Coach”), with the occasional movie part thrown in.

Co-writer, Mark Barkan can also boast a strong catalog, including the Manfreds’ “Pretty Flamingo” and Lesley Gore’s “She’s A Fool” among many others.

It's good, but the Lorraine Silvers version sounds better! 🙂
