I have been playing Irelia support ever since she got reworked, even before she was reworked.

It works, you just need to know how to use her E and R to your advantage. And building Locket and Redemption. She's beautiful in all roles, I love using her as support.

god I hope that's not just her old q. it looked like a skillshot in the new one and I hope they just make it like a line damage skillshot. the old q I hated so much because she'd just press q with a triforce and a doran's blade and delete the carry at any level with any health with that single button. and there was no peeling that cancer.

League of Legend has a community that thinks just like this: if it's not Soraka, then it can't be a support; I hate this kind of narrow-minded players who prefer to rely on someone else's ability other than their own, and even happen to ban people's picks if they can't agree with it then start raging for REPORT THIS F*Ck*R.
With that being said, Irelia's E is awesome giving support, since it can stop, even for a short time, everyone it hits, not to mention her R, which can bring at least a double kill to bot lane; giver her the Exhausts spell and destroy anybody's hope.
Players should realize that this basic lane thing is outdated, and it doesn't matter the kind of champ you select, if you know how to play, you can get some opponents screwed very easily. Soraka/Zilean top, Nocturne/Sona mid and Xin Zhao/Irealia bot have been great choices, and /mute all, a very nice tool

You forgot to mention the "marked" mechanic, which resets her Q. She is gonna dashing around a lot more than old Irelia.

To be Fair, ANY champion could Technically be a Support, no matter what they are.

For Irelia Support, She seems to be more Aggreesive then she is Defensive but that's Purely because of her Combo with her E, Q, and R; Which will really screw up the ADC and Support.

However; if you were to try out Irelia, then there is a Gift and an Issue at the same time. Since Trinity Force is still pretty much Core to her Kit as usual; It would be interesting to see what you could pull off with her. I would still say to try and buy Sheen, because even though you can't really attack Minions, If you can Gank someone or just Land your E in General, the Sheen is going to spike up her damage pretty well; Especially for the Early Game, since everyone is so squishy at the moment.

Might I suggest trying out Glacial Augment for Irelia; Since the Glacial counts as a "On-Hit" (I think) and that can really synergize well with her Q, since the Slow is Obnixous enough to Punish the enemy target. Your Secondary can be whatever.

Another Rune Page that I got Inspired by; from your Press the Attack Leona; Why not the same Rune Page for Irelia, since she would love to be super aggressive and getting in everyone's face, and she seems like she can pressure or even intimidate Bot and/or Mid.
