_We’re down to two cars now! Like a man possessed, he’s murdered every other racer and seems to be zeroing in on first place!_
_The remaining car is speeding down the straightaway like he’s being chased by the devil himself!_
_In an incredible burst of speed, the mystery driver has rammed the first place car from behind and seems to be pushing him forward!_
_The lead racer is clearly slamming on the brakes, but the two of them show no signs of slowing down at all!_
_There’s no way they’ll make this next turn at that speed!_
_I can’t bear to watch!_

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, so I gotta say it. How freaking appropriate is it that they got The Protomen to collab on this one? We have a song here that is clearly a homage to Racer X from Speed Racer, a character which defined the "mysterious rival that's actually a long lost brother" trope that Capcom homaged when creating Protoman! We've come full circle here people!

After watching Starlight Brigade and Starbomb's Overwatch parody I can't help but feel that Knights of the Light Table would provide just as perfect a rendition of this as the former by merit of Starlight Brigade alone. Seriously a video for this would be amazing.

I always like to imagine this song as F-Zero. Just how fast paced it is and how brutal F-Zero really is. I imagine Captain Falcon is killing off all of these racers for bounty, as he is a bounty hunter. If I ever had the chance to animate something it would be this. So many ideas.

So I’m high and a bit way too into this song right now, but I have a theory that the Phantom Racer is actually evil. Just a success-hungry jerk who lost his life because of a reckless attempt to win and refuses to accept his loss and move on. Something about his last line “I was born to race and I will die to win” just clicks with me in that way. Like the other racers are *terrified* (“I’ve got to slow down, the needle’s in the red”) and this guy just doesn’t care. No sympathy, no forgiveness. I love the idea of him being a horrific “justice” no one deserved.
