And after we make these perfect beds, we take our sleeping bags and sleep on the floor
so we dont fail inspection LOL

I honestly grew up making my bed this way. My moms always called it "hospital folding" but I also have retired marines in my family so that's probably where she learned it from.

I remember coming back to the barracks from training only to see almost every single bed on the floor or flipped sideways, boots laying everywhere, etc... Every bed but the two in one bunk. Mine and battle's bunk. Our shit was sitting there as pristine as we'd left it: Squared as fuck away, left as an example for the others. Then like three days later EVERYONE got tossed just because...

We had some trainees try to sleep atop the blankets as to not disturb their covers, but our Drill Sergeants would simply come through in the middle of the night and tell those who did to get beneath their covers.

about 10 min if i remember correctly, and your bunk mate has to do it too, so if you finish yours early, help him with his

My mom makes her bed this way. She taught me how to do it when I was younger and I was supposed to make my bed like it every morning after I got out of bed. I eventually stopped when I was a teenager. I honestly had no idea it was the military way until a few months ago.

Okay do this while lights are still out in the morning. You have your bunk mate still asleep cause no bed is open out in the middle as most beds are pressed against the back of a wall locker so 9 times out of 10 you will have to move your bed out while your battle buddy is sleeping. The pillow doesn't always flattened. Our bunk beds didn't have closed edges on the beds as more of a open however we did have a personal locker beneath the bed. Oh yes try sleeping on the floor at night or on top of the covers or using another extra cover and enjoy the front leaning rest position as the drill Sergeant will do check ups at night with the fireguard team. Welcome to BCT.

looking back on all these tip videos, it doesn't really matter if you know it or not. Everyone is gonna learn it at basic, yeah it's nice to get a head start BUT it's not life or death if you don't know how to make a bed before basic

Looks different than the way I learned in boot camp 1978. We folded the blanket into a square and placed it at the foot end, then took the edge of the top layer and folded it back at a 45 so that it formed a triangle. Also used only one sheet with equal hangover at the head and feet, and the sides. Then you tuck the ends, then the sides to make the hospital corners. For the pillow we folded the open end on top of the pillow and made triangles on the two sides of the folds.

you gotta do this really fast while have to take a piss really badly, you'll probably try to sleep while covering yourself with the dust cover as to not disturb the mattress haha

Ahh those good ol 45’s. Went to boot a couple years ago. Got hurt stayed in RCU for 16 weeks before I could resume my training. Those 45’s are seared into my mind lol

I had to do this at the academy every Monday morning. It wasn't just me, either. I had the guy on the bottom bunk trying to do his as we were rushing to get it done before formation. We didn't even have to sleep in the beds as we were not required to stay there, but they wanted then made each Monday morning.

Like many we too slept on top to speed up things in the morning. I recall we had one blanket, it was gray and 100% wool so scratchy haha. You learned to deal with it as you were so tired when you finally got to hit the rack.

I appreciate this when I understood it's purpose. It's not only to look neat IMO, it also is wrinkle free if done correctly. This leads to "attention to detail", because you will know if someone tampered with it. From sitting down to placing a pair of shoes on top of the bed.

He makes it look so easy but it's gotta be something to get use to.

We scored some extra blankets and slept on top of the covers. Just had to give them a little tug here and there to get them looking good. Also slept in our togs so we could fall out asap in the morning.

Hate to admit this but I failed navy boot camp 4 years ago because of this shit literally, I had no trouble with the screaming and pressure, swimming, or exercises but embarrassingly my whole crew kept getting punished because of me and a few other guys like the last three weeks of boot camp, I have the fuck up and got out, I hate myself now and I hate looking back at this failed moment in my life, fuck even folding the clothes a certain way was such a pain in the ass. I didn’t want to get sent back in another division or have my team hate me so I felt like I had no other choice. Good luck to those who are joining though you can do it
