Growing increasingly agitated, Walter (Josh Hutcherson from The Hunger Games saga and The Secret of Terabithia) accuses Danny (Jonah Bobo from Crazy, Stupid, Love) of cheating by supposedly moving his piece prematurely; when Walter tries to move the piece back and takes his next turn, the game reacts as if Walter was cheating and ejects him from the house into the vacuum of space as punishment, but the astronaut retrieves him.

What’s the “Zathura: A Space Adventure” movie about?
After their father (Tim Robbins from The Escapees and Mystic River) is called away from work, two young boys, Walter (Josh Hutcherson from the Hunger Games saga and Bridge to Terabithia) and Danny (Jonah Bobo from Crazy, Stupid, Love) are left under the supervision of their sister Lisa (Kristen Stewart from the Twilight saga and Snow White and the Huntsman) and assigned to stay home. Walter and Danny, anticipating a boring day, find a game they decide to play: Zathura. It's a somewhat peculiar space-themed board game, as it propels their house into space. With the help of an astronaut (Dax Shepard), the boys try to find their way back to Earth.

I kind of feel bad for the Astronaut in this scene. Realizing he’s future Walter, you know he’s sitting there literally watching himself be mean to his brother. He must be thinking, “Was I really that mean?”

IMO Walter was ejected because the punishment is truly about that. Danny is the one cheated so the punishment is to eject someone who plays with you, that means he won't be able to continue no matter what and felt the misery of losing someone he care and love deep down. The damage afterwards will be more impactful for Danny than Walter who might only get ejected/erased/died in the game. Just a random thought about how fucked the game actually is.

This was so funny & sibling-relatable. But jokes aside, Danny DID IN FACT cheat. But I don’t blame him. I’d want the game to end sooner to end this Hell of obstacles. But Walter’s right. No accidental kick of the board would cause the rusty-moving rockets to move a few spaces in front of the other player. You’d have to actually move it with your own hands on purpose in order to do what Danny tried to pull on him. Danny should’ve been the 1 that got flung up in space, not Walter.

3:42 These two boys were terrible but then began to change during the game when they realise how much they need each other. After danny won the game (for the first time) & got them home, they forgave & love each other ❤

Sure Danny admitted to cheating “accidentally”, but I don’t get how. It looked like it took a lot if effort for Walter to move the piece back, and then he was punished by the game. I don’t see how Danny could’ve done the same, accidentally or otherwise, without struggling like that and getting caught by the game itself.
