Biotechnology is a fascinating and complex field, but it is often portrayed as a parody of itself - a scientist in lab coat and glasses, holding a syringe of blue liquid at a bench in an industrial clean room. Keira Havens is a scientist with a love for beauty, and as CEO of Revolution Bioengineering she has combined the two by making flowers that change color throughout the day. In her talk, she shares her vision of a vibrant and stunning future made possible through responsible innovation and the integration of computation, engineering, and biology. Keira wants to shatter some stereotypes, and inspire people to learn how beautiful biotechnology can be!

I study biotechnology and that always seems like one of the best choices I've ever made. Everyday spent studying this field and doing its projects I feel like I'm doing my part at making this world a better place and there's no feeling above that.

It is so sad to see so many people hating GMOs and biotechnology without fully understanding what they mean. No major scientific innovation has ever occurred without ignorance and fear hindering it. I hope I can live to the point where our society can accept science and embrace scientific innovation for the problems it can solve and for the beauty in it, just like she explained in her talk.

I'm so glad that I watched this video now, at a stage where I am supposed to select my major for college. Thank you for making me realise that Biotechnology is indeed very beautiful. I feel like this video has given me purpose - the impetus of doing something that makes all the efforts worth the while. I am definitely selecting Biotechnology. The world needs Bio engineers.

She seems so much emotionally attached to biotechnology ❣️
No one can regret choosing biotech if we remove the biochemistry part only( it's complicated)

I'm a Biotechnologiest too. And let me tell u something, almost everything we eat these days is a GMO. Whether you like it or not, It would be impossible to feed the whole planet without these technologies, so we should thanks to all these technologies and improve it with the propose of remediate all the damage we've been doing so far. So for example, what is being known as "Bio remediation" here scientists use genetically modified organisms to remediate contaminated water or soil or when they use genetically modified bugs to inoculate plant to avoid using fertilizers, which is something absolutely harmful to living beings.

I wanna stuy biotechnology. It's so interesting but I'm so scared that I'm not good enough. And my fear of failure when it comes to school and grades is huge.

no one is playing god here, if you want to go all "god this and god that" then lets be real, god gave us the knowledge to be these curious creatures, to seek out the truth. It is in our genetic code. Their is no point denying who we are.

I believe that biotechnology and other types of sciences such as environmental engineering, renewable energies and others are the future for everyone, in all areas since it is no longer something optional but a necessity

Biotechnology is the future!
Whether it be surviving on Earth or inhabiting Mars in future, biotechnology is going to be a boon for Human race.

I am not a biologist by any degree but just learning from basic anthro and bio classes that all plants are genetically engineered gives some insight. The example I recall is modern broccli being an inedible flower to being bred into a staple on the dinner table. Skipping the steps of generations of breeding vegetables to like add vitamin A to rice is pretty cool. The Windup Girl might be a great book - but the fear of this technology is irrational and this type of knowledge could potentialy save the world.

Im 18 and want to be a veterinarian, but I’m thinking of biotechnology. I designed an aquaponics system in my backyard and I made some tissue cultures at home. I also put some plants under different coloured lights to see how light affects growth, and I was thinking of putting my cultures under different coloured lights to see what will happen (I’m weird I know). I don’t know if I would do well in biotechnology. I do well in school (especially in most science courses. Math is alright, but some subjects can be a bit confusing and I do sometimes need someone to explain the content further to understand it), however, idk if I’m smart enough or innovative enough for this field. I currently work at a vet clinic where I do a lot of lab work. Can anyone give me some input?
