Once in royal David's city
stood a lowly cattle shed,

Was sung by me and classmates, long ago, in Catholic School, and of course, Christmas morning in the choir. I often wonder about those days, more than fifty years ago, and think of how I felt then, and do now. In a very cruel, dangerous, and uncertain world, I am grateful to get a little of that feeling back, and to remember especially the words, "He is our childhoods' pattern". I remember knowing how unlike the Christ Child I was, and how short I fell of being a good person. In that time, I learned humility, and it has helped me in many a struggle in life to have perspective, and restraint, when I needed those things so badly. Strange it is how a few words can mean so much. Thanks be to G*d, for this hymn and for everything else.

Though I may be of no faith i find they of faith to be beautiful and wish i could feel the same about something for that reason I find most hymns especially this one to be beautiful.I may not believe in your lord but i praise you for your faith and will work hard for myself to find my own peace.
