For the latest Volvo EX90 pricing and information:

As we move into an electrified future, Volvo brings their flagship 3-row SUV into the mix as they plan to be an electric car company by 2030. The EX90 has a design language similar to its internal combustion engine counterpart, the XC90, but it’s longer, wider, and this will be Volvo’s first time integrating electrical foundations into structural safety adding integrity and strength. And let me tell you, Volvo claims this to be the safest vehicle they've ever produced.

But before getting into the details of safety, let’s get subjective. This is a good-looking SUV. Having a drag coefficient as low as 0.29, the flush door handles give it a sleek look, and the large 22-inch aerodynamic wheels give it character.

…and in case you’re wondering, yes the taillights put on a show as well, albeit less extravagant. There will be two versions of the EX90: A twin motor model with 402 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque, and a twin motor performance model with 496 hp and 671 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 times are 5.7 and 4.7 seconds respectively, and both models will have standard AWD.

Now let’s get into safety with numbers. Externally the EX90 has 1 Lumina LiDar Fitted on the roofline for maximum visibility, 5 radar systems, 8 cameras, and 16 ultrasonic sensors. These systems are all standard and work together to act as a protective barrier to the SUV.

The pledge for safety is also seen on the inside with a driver understanding system which takes two interior cameras and some Volvo software to detect driver attention, intoxication, and illness. This system can even take away warnings or interventions that you can do without, because the vehicle sees that you're in control even in a tight situation. The EX90 also includes passenger detection, helping keep pets or mother-in-laws at a comfortable temperature.

Not only is there an emphasis on safety, but sustainability as well. 15% recycled of steel, 25% of recycled aluminum, 150 pounds of recycle plastic and use of natural fibers help make this SUV. Stepping inside, the interior is leather free and the seating can be configured with a combination of materials. Up front, there’s a minimalist layout with plenty of storage around the center console. The driver’s seat is comfortable and the Taylor wool-blend material is surprisingly soft. Gazing ahead, there’s a clear view out of the windshield, and look down and you’ll see a cute little 8 inch information display.

Behind the 3rd row is decent cargo room and underfloor storage. For more practicality, Volvo now has electronically folding 3rd row seats accessible via buttons inside the rear doors, or inside the cargo hold. And if you’ve ever wondered if something will fit inside your SUV, Volvo has this Easter egg of interior dimensions to help.

Along with practicality, the EX90 has a great way to keep you entertained and informed. An available 25 speaker audio system with speakers in the headrest is controlled by a 14.5-inch touchscreen. This system uses the Google automotive services interface providing access to google maps, music, and assistant.

Those services will come in handy on your next road trip. Speaking of which, Volvo predicts the EX90’s 111kWh battery will get a range of around 300 miles on a full charge. There’s also fast charging capability up to 250 kW, so in ideal conditions you can get 111 additional miles in 10 minutes, and a charge from 10-80% in around 30 minutes. Volvo also plans to have Vehicle to load, Vehicle to home, Vehicle to Vehicle, and Vehicle to grid which means you may be able to sell energy during peak hours!

The EX90 will be built at the Volvo plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina, and pricing of their flagship electric SUV is planned to start under $80k, however Volvo hasn’t released the features and specs that come with that price just yet.

The mechanical light show is cool but I keep wondering how much extra it'll cost if you get into a fender bender...

I see that this was filmed at Volvo's DTLA Studio. Is it still there for public view?

I'd want leather! I suppose after market shops will get busier with reupholstery needs if all these EVs aren't coming with leather.

Volvo change the aspect ratio of the front upright screen to make it horizontal! That would be far better...
