38:11 the people that signed the law had to sign a non-disclosure agreement
if that doesnt say non-transparent corruption, i dont know what
how can laws be negociated and signed without the governed to have full disclosure?!

I don't know what the big deal is. $20 an hour will only get you a bigger tent to live in in California.

I have thoughts about this...just can't print it.

Our money went from something you stand in public and talk to other people about, before making a wish, or hope, and flicking a coin into a fountain of water, to something people treat like gambling chips, in just 20 years. Use to get so excited finding change, now it's just depressing cause you have to find it repeatedly all the time or it's useless.

The street food vendors will be everywhere in California if the 20 dollars a hour closes businesses. There might be more robots replacing workers to save fast food business.

Isn’t there a potential upside that should addressed here? People have been complaining about the lowering of standards at fast food places for many years. Possible that one way to justify higher prices to consumers is to improve the experience (accuracy, food quality, speed, cleanliness, customer service, etc.). The business owners who focus on those items rather than cutting costs as low as possible (which is usually a bad idea in the long term), will outcompete the penny-pincers and have the opportunity to buy them out at bargain prices.

My local McDonalds has kept prices low by putting in kiosks. when you do mobile ordering there are some deals as well, like a Big Mac combo with drinks and fries for $6.50. The Carl's Jr next door has burgers for $15 (no combo). that place hasn't been renovated since the 60's, no kiosks. Maybe if they invested in renovations and updated tech they could stay ahead of the curve.

Why can't the parent company who is making record profits, absorb the costs of this raise, instead of passing to cost onto the franchisee and consumers in the form if price hikes.

Raising minimum wage never works it just makes prices higher ! The solution is more paths out of minimum wage jobs !

Try 17 dollars and 50 cent if 20 don't work

As to Franchises; 1. A franchisee will invest ina frachise as a franchiser invests in its brand. When there is a legally imposed quota of 59 franchises before an operator is hit w a 25% higher labor cost, the value of that franchise is now far less. Consider the devaluing of the franchise that one paid for before this law???

This is just going phase out the human element in fast food restaurants in CA. The inevitable profitability/sustainability of that industry in that state is now going to based on automation.

This all sounds great when you leave out competition, but in reality someone will take a 2% hit to margins to be more competitive. They will then have more business due to offering a similar quality product at a lower price. My point in highlighting this is that markets are unpredictable. When you make simple predictions based off supposed fundamentals, you always leave something out, you have to because you can't calculate all the variables. If you could, markets would be predictable.

In my day, ìf you thought the wages were to low somewhere, don't work there. These jobs are considered ( entry level) a starting point in life for young people. Now that's gone.

Who's working? ???? This job is supposed to be for young people to make extra spending cash. Not the job of the business owner to make sure u can pay your mortgage , electric, gas, water, insurance, etc. Go back to school or find a different job. It's not the business owner to make sure you can make your rent, car payment, insurance, etc. We have our own stuff to worry about, not to make sure each employee can live
Comfortable on their pay and hours

If our courts upheld the law Equal protection would mean that a minimum wage would apply to all equally. It would not force some to be higher or lower.

Price manipulation = higher taxes on the same product
