80'S Toys that SUCK - HIT STIX - SIMPLETHINGSTOYS

Ever have a toy that left you feeling ripped off as a kid due to deceptive marketing and poor quality? Hit Stix were an air drumming toy from 1987 that had a really cool commercial. Unfortunately, they sucked. I'll show you why in this video!

4) Hand-held electronic games with names like Football and Basketball but no resemblance to those sports

Amazing video! I got a knockoff called "Rhythm Rods", but I really wanted the Hit Stix because I'd seen the commercial. There were a few different sounds you could switch between but they were totally inconsistent as well - a lot of misfires. And even the variable sounds, like a laser, had only one tone, volume and duration.

I had these. I had the hot lixx guitar too. I had a microphone stand toy too but can't remember the name. The small stage would light up. I think the mic was blue.

I had Hit Stix 2. They were awesome. They could make different sounds. I also remember them be more responsive. I remember not knowing how to use them and then my dad picked them up and jammed.

I owned this silly toy as a super young kid. They were pretty terrible -- they sounded more like an NES game gun sound than a snare drum. Thankfully my parents got me a real drumset not too long after. I think they partially felt bad for having gotten me this and the high expectations that they'd be better than they actually were :P

This is the toy I felt most disappointed in. I wanted Hit Stix so bad. I had 2 pencils I used as drumsticks on a table. But I asked for Hit Stix for Christmas. I didn't get them. So I spent my Christmas $ to get them. I think they were $29.99. Sooo much money for me at that time. And then to hear that each hit just sounded like static? So lame. I think I got rid of them soon after because I was so disappointed.

Your reviewing antique things and saying they don't work.. when I got them as a kid I absolutely loved them and they worked pretty much flawlessly! My parents took them away from me super quick cause I used them pretty much nonstop once I got them lol

I remember being so happy that I found hit stix at the goodwill shortly after they had come out. Once I got them home, I figured out why that crappy ass shit was there in the first place.

Yeah I got these stupid things called head sticks for my birthday like about two years ago anyways it’s a late birthday present and they were just nine dollars new I also got hit sticks to as well

They were inconsistent terrible and everything else I’m glad I watch this video before I got them but anyways since I know about electronics I decided to take them apart

I also got a knock off called rhythm rods they were pretty cheap as well

No wonder people didn’t want these toys for a birthday present but I was fine with them since I modified mine as well

What are Hitt sticks good for?
I’m gonna tell you what they’re good for
They’re good for a little something called circuitbending

You take apart an old child’s toy and you modify it first do you have to find the main resistor that controls the pitch and then remove it I did the same thing to my head sticks and modified it and several other ways as a matter fact I still have them they were fun when I was done with them

just found mine on the garage. hadnt been used in over 25 years and they still worked. they sound like crap, and I thought it was maybe the age, but no, they always sounded like crap haha
