Coffee fans - let's talk brewing with the Chemex.

The Chemex is among the most elegant and visually striking manual brew methods. Its graceful glass form, and natural wood/leather details make the Chemex a tasteful piece of equipment on the brew bar, as well as a powerful pour over brewer.

Here are some tips for making the most out of this longtime fan-favourite:

- Brewing with the Chemex is optimal at larger batches! Yes, you could brew smaller batches for a cup or two, but this brewer performs best for larger batches. The large brew funnel benefits from a deeper bed of ground coffee, which will help you achieve a sweet and balanced extraction more easily.

- As with all pour over methods, strive for an even pour and a flat bed of grinds once you're finished your final pour. Try to assess where there are any pock marks or divots in your brew bed, and as always, try to pour gently and with finesse!

- In the video shown here, we're brewing with the Able Kone (available in our online shop), a stainless steel filter alternative to the regular Chemex filters. Not only is the metal filter reusable, but as we've mentioned before, the metal filter allows the coffee oils to drip through to the final brew, leading to a richer and more viscous cup of coffee! A very different experience, but always worth the experiment and the experience if you have yet to try it out!
