The early production Series 1 E Type that this car was based on did not have power steering. In production form it was difficult to maneuver at parking speeds but as velocity increased the car came into its own and less effort was required. The rack and pinion steering transmitted a lot of information back to the driver, allowing for easily controlled powerslides. But if one fitted wider race tires, or radial tires, then the car became very difficult to steer, especially when the suspension was heavily loaded as in a slide. The right hand drive setup also required a bit of practice if one was used to left hand drive. With only 4 ratios there is a big gap between gears, especially in a car geared for 150+ mph. I owned several E types over many years and none of them could be shifted quickly. The Series 2 Jaguar built gearbox was a big improvement over the Moss gearbox used since 1949 until 1964. This car probably was fitted with a racing gearbox with straight cut gears as they are stronger, but without syncromesh timing is everything.

Looks like it is a bit of a handful to drive. There were a couple of very quick E-types when I was a kid racing at Brands Hatch that could give the Cobras a bit of a run. Very cool and great video. Thanks.

Very cool video. I felt like I was there. Love the Jags, Cobras and Ferrari's.

Nada encontrei,
Mas vi seus lindos olhos brilhando
E a  verdade achei.

Nice Video but why no heel/toe downshifts??  I am astonished a vintage racer at this level is not capable of something so basic.

Lightweights and lowdrags are slightly different. I'm not sure on the exact specs of each, but while the lightweights were a proper factory run, the lowdrags tended to be private and modified from either lightweights or standard cars.

warum steht denn das Lenkrad so schief bei dem?

Faster though. And the changes add a certain dynamic to the racing that's much needed in these days of aero-dependence making overtaking so difficult. That's the price you pay for 'progress'.

What the hell is he doing with that steering wheel?

What Paul said. Just cuz you own the car don't mean you can drive it. Throttle should be blipped on down shifts to match the RPM's. Nice sound though.

The tyres look fresh, I believe Dunlop still produce this pattern for the classic market.

Money can buy such wonderful cars but it can't buy the driving skills to make it competitive on track !
