Whoever came up with this fix is a damn genius!!! A whole lot easier than dropping the downpipe.. exhaust.. heat shield..etc..and then dropping the assembly out the bottom..I just diesel geek fixed mine this morning..damn I must say it was easy..

I found that the lower shaft bushing didn’t work. Anytime I pushed the shifter down it would get stuck and I’d have to pull up on it. Even re assembled it did it. Put back in the old bushing and had no problem with it.

Unfortunately I stripped out the t-25 torx screw holding the bracket on. Tried every trick in the book to get it out. Is drilling the screw out an option or would that damage the shifter?

Is there any other way of taking the shifter stick out without drilling a hole? Not the best solution in making a hole in the standard shifter mechanisim.

Is this gonna work if i can't go to 2-nd gear instead of first? And if so, do i have to swap all the bushings or just one or two?

How did you guys take off the torx bolt?
I just tried with the right sized t25 and immediately stripped part of it....

Do you know the bolt size and thread size of the bolt that holds that arm that keeps that first gear getter in? My car won’t go in 1st easily and won’t go in reverse at all because of that bushing but my bolt is stripped and I can get any bolt from the local hardware store

So when replacing the bushing where you need to drill the whole and install the snap ring supplied with the kit do you also need to install the factory c clip as well or does the supplied snap ring keep everything held together?

My lower cable doesn't have a snap ring it has same clip that the other ones have

Well Im not sure how common this is. Ive done this on 3 cars now, of course i go to do this on multiple daily driver and something goes south. My front to back lower bushing that fits the 10mm bushing had a plastic cable end and the bushing was moulded in, instead of just sitting in. There was no way that bushing was fitting, i drilled it out with a 9/16s drill and it took a ton of massaging and pushing to finally get it to take.

Just curious if you guys were aware of this cable style. I think i pulled the box out of a turbo beetle from the yard. It was a PITA to do in the car lol. Both other cars i did them outside of the car

Hi, please ..can you advise on a vw golf mk 4 actual gear stick replacement as i think mine is broken inside as i can only select gears 3&4 .. is it a gearbox out kinda job or can be done from inside the car .. it all looks plastic and moulded to a large degree !
Thanks

Now exhaust fumes are going to get into car with that hole ?

Coinfortune

Would this be easier to go at from underneath the car and dropping exhaust?

Will I have to drill into the Audi TT shift box as well for this fix?

For the one bushing underneath with the snap ring clamp — is it bad to reuse the factory snap on clip thing?

What sort of grease do you recommend using on those moving parts?
